Just seen this post. My son has a Birman, he lives next door. Have to treat hi. With caution, he is not too friendly!

Really, how strange, most Birmans are incredibly loving. I also had Charlotte's brother, but he had to be put to sleep last November. He was a blue point & a complete sweetie. He went to sleep every night holding my hand between his paws.

I know the first 7 weeks of a kitten's life are vital in determining how sociable they are as adults. If he wasn't well socialised by the breeder it could account for it. Then again, he could just be a very bad tempered cat !☺
