Do they ?

There is always going to be bad things going on...the secret is not to let them over shadow all the good things.

Concentrate on the good things, and not the bad for a happier outlook on life.

Just going to say something similar but you said it better. It's all about attitude. Not "I was in the wrong the place at the wrong time." But working towards "I am in the right place at the right time." (Mainly because we have no choice except our reaction to what life flings at us.)

Morning everyone.

Wet, coolish here. Bright side? I will not have to water my pots, tubs and baskets today.

Love

Hi Kate

Very true.

Like many on here l have had rotten things happen in my life, which can and has left me very depressed at times. I have dealt with that slightly different.

I am speaking about every day life in general, l made up my mind to try and be a glass half full type of person...or if you really want to be cheerful, a full glass ! 😂😂

Love it. Prosecco?

I believe we make our own happiness. And gratitude is weird: if you are thankful then it kind of breeds and more stuff arrives that makes thankful....

Hi Katinka, recently been to Garda and had a drink called a Hugo. I think memanyouwomen lives in Italy so may have heard of it. I found it very refreshing and it consists of

Prosecco

Tonic

Elderflower liquor

With, ice, lemon and mint.

I think you can get Elderflower liquor at Waitrose.

Actually You didn't asked a question, you made a statement of how you see things....we can only reply with our opinions

Why,what is up there?

in reply tomemanyouwoman

You have not got enough time for me to teach you:-)

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

I think I might.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

Questionable of course. Think is not a positive.

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

I did say think , not think not.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

....and "might" is neither here nor there and is certainly not a positive.

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

But then again how do you know I haven't. That is positively a negative.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

Don't like negatives, you have to hold them up to the light to see.

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

Only if you can see the light.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

It helps.

I will have to put the ear plugs in.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

Here - have something to read which may answer your original question, whilst I go and pick some tomatoes for my lunch:-)

That was fun:-)

I have to wait until the neighbour goes out before I can pick fresh tomatoes.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

...of course you do:-)

I have the breath to do this now.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

It is a necessary requirement.

I think it's called 'sod's law'

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply tobutterfly31851

No it is not. Sods law is if a negative can happen it will.

Bettz profile image

Sods Law must be like Murphy's Law:

Nothing is as easy as it looks.

Everything takes longer than yo think.

If anything can go wrong it will.

That's life. ups and downs. Enjoy the ups!!

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply topergola

Still not answered the question. How come there are more downs than ups. Not for me naturally.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

heh heh.............I thought you lived in a mountainous region?

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

Ha Ha. Close to a mountainous region and I assure you if I go up I have to come down but that is only physical ,maybe the mind is somewhere else. Tried sleeping overnight on a mountain. No,nor have I.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

Why do you ask a question - I assume it was a question, with a reply on behalf of yourself? How do you know we have not slept on mountains, either overnight or during the day?

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply to

Rhetorical. Had to be as I know nothing of you.

in reply tomemanyouwoman

You wouldn't. Don't like rhetoric.

I try and live with the "positive things happen to positive people" mantra but this year is really testing me. Diagnosed with COPD in February, Mum falling badly and having to go into residential care and this week my sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm trying hard to really enjoy the good things and challenge myself with new things but some days it's difficult.

I'm focussing on the good times, and good people around me and on how lucky I am to have these around me.

in reply todiesel12

Diesel dear Diesel - what to say. I wish I could do something to make it better. Everything has gone to hell in a handcart for you this year. Tell us if we can do anything? Let us know won't you? I don't often feel guilty for being happy, but I do today.

xx

diesel12 profile image
diesel12 in reply to

Oh don't feel guilty Jennifer! no need at all, sometimes in life crap happens but it makes us stronger and helps us appreciate the good times xxx

in reply todiesel12

Don't quite know what to say because I'm lost for words. It's when it is happening to someone else and you have no control - then it hurts.

If you don't have the bad things how can you appreciate all the good things?

If you do not have the good times how do you know you are having bad times.

Murphy's law ?

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply toBilliejean_2

I knew the Irish would have to come into sometime. Tis not Murphy's law. Murphy's law is that if something bad will happen,it will. Not the question I asked.

Billiejean_2 profile image
Billiejean_2 in reply tomemanyouwoman

Clearly, you haven't the faintest grasp of what Murphy's Law means. Equating it to a simple 'que sera, sera' is missing the point entirely. It's that something happens despite you and your efforts, not just that something 'will' happen, regardless.. So if you bring your umbrella, it won't rain, if you don't it will.

I imagine it's as relevant to your question as any other meaningless phrase. That tends to happen when you ask a meaningless question.

Ciao, ciao :)

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply toBilliejean_2

I know exactly the meaning. 56 replies to a nothing question. Wow.

You're not aware of time passing in the good times because you are enjoying yourself and it doesn't matter about time. In the bad times it's all too east just to watch the clock.

pergola profile image

Memanyouwoman, well what sort of answer would make you happy, then!!!

memanyouwoman profile image
memanyouwoman in reply topergola

Ha Ha. A wise person hey. The answer is no-one knows. Probably a perception of time. Does not make me happy,I just like asking questions.

MMYW

It's the one you are going to get off me.

We can only give you an opinion on why you you think like that, because you question does not have a right or wrong answer.

As for prosecco being a s**t wine, again that is your opinion

I have come to this discussion late in the day but here are my thoughts.

Good things we take for granted and they can stick around for all of your life. Love, family, great friends, a walk in the woods the list goes on. But, being human we take these things for granted.

When the bad things happen they too can last quite some time but if you are cushioned by what I said above you are able to ride out most storms. That, unfortunately, is just life. We all expect too much from it and are never content. How does it go "what is this life if full of care that we have no time to stand and stare..."
