Are you ankles and legs swelling. If so you should see your doctor about getting a diuretic. I take one to rid my body of the excess fluid usually associated with heart failure.

Me too I have been taking them for a month. Good advice.

Hi Joyce

My GP put me on one 4 moths ago to go with my other BP meds, as my BP was still high.

When l was taken ill in Malta last month, my sodium levels were very low, can be the side effect of the diuretic the GP gave me.

They took me off it and 3 days later my levels were normal.

You should have a blood test after a few weeks to check.....my GP apologised, and told me they forgot !!

There are other reasons for breathlessnes...don't self diagnose...see your GP for blood tests etc

I've had asthma all my life. I had an echo done last week. I have right sided heart enlargement. My breathing is terrible at the moment. I'm on steroid tablets and seeing the doctor every day - he says I need to go to hospital, but I don't want to go. He gave me oxygen this morning to slow my heart down.

I was diagnosed with heart failure in 1992 and I think it a bad way of describing heart conditions. My late mother of 93 was told she had heart failure when in fact it was a very mild AF. I had to explain to her that her condition is nothing compared to what my heart is doing all of the time.

If the GP/hospital has said it is the heart it needs to be looked at in detail to see what is causing the breathlessness. There are a lot of tablets that will control most conditions.

I have also had 'heart failure' for years and was terrified when I was first told. They don't explain things very well, do they?

It is a very bad choice of words. I have arthritis and they do not call it bone failure?

They will get you on some meds for your condition. It will take some time. May God bless you through this difficult time.

Breathlessness is very scary but it does not necessarily mean you have heart failure. It could be something simple like a drop in iron levels or some of the B vitamin groups. These are all needed to assist the body's oxygen carrying capacity, if one or more is deficient you can become very breathless.

I have experienced breathless due to this but I also have a mixed form of asthma and diastolic heart failure (there are two main types of heart failure) and so I thought at first that these conditions were to blame. However, it was low iron and folic acid levels that were the culprits. This was easily remedied by some supplements.

Nevertheless, if you are in any doubt at all, speak to your GP to get the simple things excluded first. I hope you feel better soon. Try to chill out and not to get stressed as this can make breathlessness worse.

Greetings

I suppose that you have COPD. If you have emphsema, you should expect to be breathless- it's one of the results of having compromised lungs. Whatever - don't consult Dr. Google. If you are thinking the worst now, you'll find yourself dead in three clicks. Go see a doctor.
