Hi when you smoke your body masks some of your symptoms and it also has a suphoric effect on your lungs.  When you stop this effect stops too and your lungs are recovering themselves and trying to get rid of all the nasties from them.   You are also liable to get more infections too in the short term.   Everyone is different and you might be over this bit in a short time but in others it can take months.

Although in the short term you feel worse,  in the long term you are benefitting your lungs and this is the best thing you can do to slow down the progression of your disease.   Well done for quitting.  x

Stick with it Jeanjt, you're doing great! I know what it takes to get past the bit that you're at, and it's not easy. You're doing the right thing but feeling worse instead of better and that doesn't seem right, but it is. Your body's still missing the nicotine, that's why you're feeling worse - and that means you're winning! Some people may pack up smoking without feeling any side effects but they're in the minority, most of us have to suffer 'some of them' and some of us suffer longer than others. Personally, I started feeling a bit better after about four months. After that I was less aware of feeling lousy, until at some point I realised I was actually feeling a heck of a lot better than I had in a very long time. One day you'll feel the same - so hang on in there, good luck and best wishes.

Well done. Your doing great. It's hard to say, but I found it helps to think of the positives. You don't have to go outside for a fag, you. An smell your perfume, you can buy yourself little presents or save for a big one. Your health will improve. Good luck xxx

jeant, retail therapy! Three weeks without a fag means three weeks of extra cash - go spend some!! It won't make the symptoms any different but it makes you feel a whole lot better!

Four years on I still do it on a regular basis!

Hell fire! If I can't have a drag on a fag then at least I can splash the cash! How long will it take before you feel better? Who cares - just keep spending the savings!

Seriously, I lay last night listening to my breathing thinking, "normal people" breath without thinking about it, if you haven't reached that stage yet then, trust mem, it's not a stage you want to reach in a hurry .. and every fag brings you closer to my dark world!

Sorry I can't answer your question but hopefully you can find some relief from my comments. You are doing BRILLIANTLY so why would you want to go back?

Good luck, best wishes and spend, spend, spend!

Hello. I've never smoked apart from experimentally in school but I know people who have for years and have quit for the better. I wish you luck on this journey to making yourself feel better. I am sure it's a matter of time. Hang in there and well done! xx

Well done - you've conquered it!! Yes, you feel hellish - and probably will do for another month or two - but all things pulmonary are getting better already even although you don't feel it yet.

Please don't smoke again , please, please, please!!

Good luck.
