Hi Help how long is a piece of string?   There is no way of telling.  There are many folk on here who have stage 3 and some even stage 4.   I don't think any of them plan to go any time soon.   Do you know your lung function (FEV1)?  x

Well my husband us 68 this week - he has been diagnosed about 15 years and is now stage 4 apparently.  He is still working full time, he is breathless but he has Copd and I am not expecting him to be shuffling his mortal coil any time soon.  Please don't worry you could be here for many more years.  Lots of love TAD xx

Hi Help_61,

I'm only at Stage 2 (53 - 56% depends on the day of the week which it is), 62 & soon to be 63. Only thing that might limit my life expectancy is the Number 52 bus (assuming I'm not looking where I'm going)!

Stopping smoking, taking exercise, attending PR, healthy lifestyle & reasonable medication regime should ensure a long and quite reasonable lifestyle for many years to come.

As coughalot2 says, how long is a piece of string; personally, I'd sooner have a short enjoyable life than a long, dreary, depressing one but, on the whole, I'll settle for a long enjoyable one, please.

Worry less about what might happen and enjoy more of what is happening - each day has the capacity to be great, enjoy!

No one can say, but I have been at severe stage 3 COPD  & severe stage 3 Bronchiectasis, with severe emphysema thrown in, for well  over 10 years, and I am a lot older than you Help-61....read this website, do EVERYTHING you can to keep as well as you can, especially exercise ,   there is no reason you cannot have a very full and long life ..There are lots of things that you can do to help yourself stay healthy,  most of them you will find on this website.

As we get older most people get something  wrong with them health wise,   with us its our lungs.   I have had bronchiectasis since a baby,  taken antibiotics ever since they were first introduced,  and I am still here, not on oxygen, and mobile and able to do most things if they don't include walking fast or walking up hills  :) :)

Keep your lungs as clear as you can with your chest clearance and breathing exercises, and try to avoid (like the plague)  catching colds or other viruses

Welcome to the website

Love Sohara

Hi

I have stage 1V COPD with a FEV of 15%. Yet I don't think about life expectancy.  I live alone and still manage to do basic household stuff and drive.  I think movement is very important as it keeps your lungs clear of mucus.

Please look after yourself.
