Disabled Parking Spaces ...

On subject of disabled parking BLUE BADGEs WHY places do need them.

Well I found myself sporting a funky infection ONE of those great one's that effectyour cognitive function YOU know type Ones that are killing you that your GP's say this nout there.

Anyway this particular infection coincided with LUNG clinic appointment at my local Hospital.

I looked for a Disabled parking spot BUT the was ALL taken :( SO I decided I was going to have to use pay to USE car park ... so I duly grabbed my TICKET from machine and looked for a parking spot.

Luckily I found one that surprised me AT just how roomy it was SO I hobbled into hospital for my appointment FEELING chuffed with myself.

Only to return TO find two burly security guards round my car ... so I duly asked them was there a problem WHEN they so kindly pointed out I was parked on car park junction.

So I pointed OUT is this not a hospital TO Which they replied yes SO I said it's good job as that's why am here as clearly am ill.

So I jumped in car shamed and inbarsed  ..... Than I started thinking about parking fines and could you be fined if disabled and they did not take into account your disability condition.

I would say under human rights law I think they would be committing offence if they tried thus breaching your Human Rights.

I think this all boils down to the fact that you were parked at the car park junction which would have inconvenienced and confused other drivers and maybe even have been a danger hazard to others. I know that disabled parking is abysmal and charged for at many hospitals so I feel your frustration. I really feel for you because I had one of those infections last year which make you confused and affect your concentration. I am sure that if you weren't so poorly you wouldn't have parked there. I hope they don't fine you but if they do, appleal directly to the hospital who employ the car park company. I hope that you are feeling a bit better now.

Hi Jeff

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well, But I am not surprised your car attracted attention if you parked on the car park junction.

Even if you were using your blue badge, they do come with a few conditions where you can park.

I know when l am ill and not thinking straight, it also means l should not be getting behind the wheel of a car, both for my own safety, and the safety of other road users.

Perhaps a friend taking you, or a taxi is called for next time you feel like that.

I wish you a speedy recovery

If it was a private car park and a member of BPA then under their own guidelines they should not issue a parking ticket to a car displaying a blue badge where there is concessions for them!

in reply toOffcut

Hi Offcuts Cheers ... Yer I never knew that I shall keep me eye out for BPA stuff BUT am not very hopefull I would see it as especially as I thought junction was parking bay.

As Velvet pointed out it is unwise to drive if you were in such a poor state. I had an accident last August due to being unwell and on meds and I haven't driven since. It is very restricting as I live in a village and am more or less housebound but I am not prepared to be responsible for hurting or killing another person.

in reply toSnodgrass

Hi snodgrass this not much to say apart from if you don't get help and Surport what you apost to do.

Anyway DWP said I was fine and can always pull over SO guess am cured.

Hi Jeff,

I think the minute you try to tell them to take into account that you have a blue badge cos of a condition that impairs your ability to concentrate or park or drive your car etc and ask them to make allowances then what they'll actually do is take away your driving licence !!!!! You might as well ask them to let you off for parking in the wrong spot cos you were drunk!

I do really sympathise though. My dad has copd and has a blue badge but to be honest most of the time now he's too light-headed to drive. It's hard for him cos driving was the last thing he had left that made him feel like everyone else and not disabled. He really hates having to get a lift now and be dependant on a driver. There have been occasions when he's been tempted just to get behind the wheel and try to get there himself but he had a few scary near miss moments plus several very expensive scrapes to the wing of his car when parking and now he only drives on a rare good day.

I hope your wee incident was just a temporary lapse and you have many years of safe happy motoring ahead of you but please if some days you do feel a bit wobbly don't drive and risk a horrible accident,

All the best,

Claire

Being I'll is not like drink driving EVEN well people get sick.

Illness is epersodic by nature I.e fine one min ill the next .. But issue of driving we are talking about a parking spot XMAS I can't count how many times stressed out driver's have nearly killed me or other road users.

Then you have thos that txt msg people .. they are worse than any drink drugged driver also you have thos tired after 12 hour shift

Even those on mobilaty scooters are dangerious and think the beyond reproach.

But like you say is best to be aware of your condition and your limitations off days as am sure I am

Have seen a few crazy things and there apost to be ok .. Guess this hope for us lol.

As is I don't think they can criminalise the sick disabled for being sick just yet  SO I try not to worry to much.
