Hi

Some light reading.

Whether you lungs are "restrictive or obstructive " depends on your particular condition.

Hello Lisa, you could also enter Restriction/Restrictive in the search BLF at the top of the page on the right. There have been several posts on this in the past which may be helpful.

If all else fails a good move is to smile at your consultant and ask him what questions you should be asking.

Good luck, Sue.

I have emphysema and Restrictive lung disease. It can cause problems with diagnosis when they peak flow as it can be higher than COPD would be. Which if they are unaware of RLD then they will assume a better outcome than it is?

As for asking questions the first I would ask is what is causing the restrictive issues?

Generally inhalers do not show an improvement on the second spiro test which shows a restrictive issue also it is not uncommon to show a higher peak flow reading as you will tend to blow everything out and have nothing left, were obstructive can still have something there that does not come out because of the condition.

I was surprised how many GP's have not known this?
