Hi, there are lots of great clips on YouTube Jude. Some very clever ones with graphics produced by medics. I found them when looking for breathing exercises (I think).

You could have a look on there? It's all I can suggest for the moment.

It's fantastic that you're breathing has improved - inspirational for many. P x

Hi Camilla & welcome to our forum.

You don't say how long ago you were diagnosed or when you stopped smoking.

Are you on meds or inhalers?

Your breathing will be managed with medication but it you will never be cured of emphysema.

If you give us a bit more info , someone will be able to offer you advice.

Take care 🌺

Hi,many people find that their breathing/cough worsens immediately after giving up smoking. Hardly surprising really when you consider the poisons we put in our lungs over the years! However, once the body starts to clear the toxins most find that their breathing/cough improves. Congratulations on giving up. x

Hello welcome to the site , Well done stopping smoking , it takes a while before the benefits of not smoking show and it takes a while for your medicine to work well.

Try to get on to a Pulmonary Rehab course as you can improve through exercise and a nutritious diet. You can be referred through your doctor or nurse, good luck, huff xxx

Well done in stoping smoking camilla. I stopped July of last year sorry to say my breathing has got worse since I stopped. Not any 2 people with COPD are the same.Take care xx

Hi

Stopped smoking two weeks ago when diagnosed with emphysema via chest x-ray. Breathing not good since stopping but think it's a combination of things - nicotine withdrawal, shock of diagnosis and have been given low dose amatryptiline for upper back pain (likely copd related). Can only hope that all this will pass. Have first spiro test on 5 January. On that subject, there was a really good post ages ago about what to ask for at first spiro test but can't find it now. Can anyone help with that request? Thanks. M

As I was told by a consultant stoping smoking only stops the progression the damage has been done. I stopped July of last year and I find that my breathing is worse than it was when I smoked but I have other chronic conditions to take in to account.things effect people differently one consultant told me no 2 people have the same systems for COPD
