Bronchectus

Hi there. Do you have a diagnosis of bronchiectasis? Was a sample sent from your GP or done at the hospital which you attend? It definitely sounds as though you have an infection (exacerbation) caused by a bacteria which the lab tests are failing to pick up. Keep nagging the doc. You need the right antibiotic in the correct dosage to deal with this and you need it quickly before you go further downhill. Good luck, do let us know how you go on
Hi I agree with Still standing , sputum tests don't always pick up on whatever it is you have growing. It would be best to submit another sample. Make sure it is a good deep cough sample and as fresh as possible. It does sound as though you might have bronchiectasis - you will have had a CT scan to diagnose this.
Hope the next sample grows something so your doctors know which antibiotic you need.
Good luck.
Agree with the others; if you can arrange another one make sure you really cough deep (there are exercises on the net to show you how to do that).
Also have they offered any blood tests? They can also show up certain problems.
Thank you for your help its so nice to be able to get advise you don't feel stupid asking some of the questions. Yep doing bigger sample but my chest so raw from coughing and my poor head big big thanks
Don't feel so alone with all of you to help xx.
What some of the coughing exercises show you is how to bring up sputum with minimal coughing. A full-blown cough does exactly what you say so the trick is to 'work it loose' to reduce irritation & that horrible raw feeling.
A basic one is to breathe in deeply through your nose, then slowly out through your mouth as if you were gently blowing out a candle. Keep going as long as you can, then when you feel the cough coming on try to just 'push' the gunge up rather than coughing your guts out. It's not easy but as well as giving a deeper sample if you need it, it helps to get a bit more of the bug-carrying gunk out.
excellent help
