I'm a 24/25 year old male, about 6'5, and not very active. Last year (when I was 23/24) I had a couple of collapses (Spontaneous Pneumothorax (or Pneumothoraces?)) of my left lung in quick succession, which lead to having a Pleurectomy and Blebectomy. In the past few months I've been having a tightness and discomfort (sometimes a little painful) in my chest around where the collapse and operation was, but not when I breath in like when my lung was collapsed; there has also been a gurgling feeling there. I believe that it is just a bit of nerve damage and some phantom sensation, and I have had another x-ray when it came about because I was worried. I was just wondering if this is normal for this type of operation and if anyone experiences similar feelings? Also, if anyone has any advice on ways that I can reduce this?

Gurgling 1 year after Pleurectomy
Sorry, I can't help you. Maybe you should ring the BLF helpline on 03000 030 555 during office hours.
I had my pleurectomy back in 1985 and had my top third of my right lung removed. To this day I still get a soreness and tightness on my right side. Not sure what is happening and doctors not sure as nothing shows up in x-rays. May be worth a mention about a thing called pleural gases but I have yet to pursue this course.
Hi otterlung sorry to hear about your trouble, I had the same op in 1989, (aged 32) on both lungs at the same time for the same reasons as yourself. To be honest I can't remember what it was like a year later, but don't forget you will probably be forming scar tissue. what I will say is I had a good 20 years ish before I had too many serious problems, and that was because I developed rheumatoid arthritis which affected my lungs, so of course the scar tissue didn't help. All I can say without preaching, is exercise is the one thing you should be doing as every little helps your lungs to improve. A year is not a long time after such a serious op, so give yourself time and build your fitness up gradually and there shouldn't be any reason not to make a full recovery at your age. sorry if I sound like a nagging mum but I hope this helps. take care.
