Morning ole rocker!

I had a real BARKING cough, out of the blue, which was eventually diagnosed as late inset severe Asthma. Anyhow, apart from a plethora of meds & inhales, which had little effect, I found, for me, generic PHOLCODINE, from Boots was most effective. ( Cheapest too!) Tried everything. Nothing really stopped it for years.. Seems like years of high dose steroids probably helped too as the cough is gone, unless I have an infection starting.. My Portent of Doom!

People could hear me coming down the street.mcolleagues at work got annoyed, as did awful intimidating neighbour upstairs, like I was doing it on purpose, but there was nothing I could do about it! It was absolutely exhausting too. My heart goes out to you..

Big hugs!

G'Day to you Sparkimoore, I too felt like I was coughing my lungs out and as a help I take Rikodiene which helps. Just been put on Symbicort so hoping that will work too. Have a great day / night wherever you are. Hugs back at ya.

Hello Olerocker, if your cough is due to asthma it suggests the asthma is not under control. However for difficult to control asthma there is a new drug out which is supposed to be very good. Asthma UK on line should be able to help. I have a constant cough with COPD for which I am prescribed ventolin maxi dose but it does not really work so I find plenty of fluids help, mainly warm drinks. Hope the info is of use to you.

Just a PS there are some drugs like codeine that suppress the cough, and many cough medicines do also good luck Olerocker.

G'Day again, Yes, yes, I have a cough mixture called Rikodeine which helps heaps when I get too bad but try not to use it too much as it is Codiene based. Hugs to you.

Hi Olerocker

If you find anything that works, please let me know....I have copd and asthma, and am plagued with a cough that starts whenever I am near my many triggers,...it drives me mad, and is embarrassing.... For me, Ventolin makes it worse !!

G'Day Velvet, I find my Ventolin makes me cough at times too. Sometimes I think the cure is worse than the complaint. Just been put on Symbicort so am hoping this may help. Hugs to you

I've found nothing stops an asthma cough except perhaps an ice pole or two. The chill from crunching ice seems to stop mine.

G'Day Minky, Wow, cold icy poles, that would make me cough more. I do drink a lot of water and pineapple juice which eases the cough from time to time. Thanks so much for replying.

Hi I have asthma as well as copd and cough a lot too (hence the name) but there is not a lot I can do about it. I always carry tissues and drink a lot of water but people do still have a go at me about it. I mainly ignore them. x

Hi Cal

Try wine instead of water... You won't give a monkey what they say then.

Hello ole rocker, l have extrinsic allergic alveolitus, which means that l am allergic to something that l am ingesting. I recently bought a salt pipe, had not heard of this before, had a bad week or so wheezing and coughing, not an infection but an irritant to me and my husband, so used this pipe for two days and the wheezing stopped and the cough, believe me l was very surprised, that was a few weeks ago so l am using it regularly for ten minutes a day, am forgetting it sometimes, which is a good sign. I am not suggesting that this is a cure but it might stop your cough. It was bought from a site on the Internet. Hope you feel better soon.

Make sure your condition is managed properly and this is not due to the drugs.

If you have a dry annoying cough through the night there is a good tip I learnt from a very knowledgeable lady from another site. It will sound crazy but give it a go and you might be surprised. Get some Vick vapour rub but don't put it on your chest. Put it on the soles of your feet at night covering with a pair of socks. Told you it sounded odd but you can only give it a go.

Hello Cofdrop

I'm game for that.....I will try anything. The odder the better in my book...

One question......I only have cheeky little designer socks...they are gorgeous, will the Vick still work ? !!!!

I take Benylin Original at bedtime and it really helps stop night coughing. I always carry ' fishermen friends' cough sweets as well. I had a bad time with coughing related asthma until my GP referred me to a heart consultant who undertook an ultra sound scan. He discovered that the coughing at night was being caused by a diaphragmatic reflux, apparently this is common with long term cough related asthma. He diagnosed Omniprisal capsules to be taken at 6 pm and this vastly improved the night time problems of waking up coughing and having to sit up half the night. My respiratory consultant later increased the dose to one morning and one in the evening. Since then I have been able to decrease all the inhalers.

in reply toGrannyS

Hello GrannyS. I cant find Omniprisal on the net. Would you mind checking the name and who makes them? Thanks a lot. Robin

Would it be Omeprazole?
