Does anyone’s oxygen concentrator make noise so loud that it’s hard to sleep? I can’t hear if someone knocks on the door or most of the time what someone is saying to me. I told the company (Inogen) and they said it was normal. When I needed a new one, the one they sent was even louder than the first. Do all machines do this?

Yes they are really noisy, mine has had to go in the other bedroom so I can sleep.

Hi, in the brochure they say that they make no more noise than a domestic fridge!

rubbish. I found that most of the noise was caused by vibration, in order to dampen this I placed padding underneath the machine and this made a big difference. I used a square of carpet on top of three layers of extra large bubble wrap.

British Oxygen supplied me with an Airsep Visionair 3. It's very quite.

The previous machine was very noisy !

My concentrator is on the landing about 5 feet from my bedroom door. When the door is closed it's so quiet I forget it's there.

Try and see if your supplier can get you one.

I have tried, but they said that the one I had was for medicare patients.

Who are Medicare, what part of the country do they cover?

I have had 3 machines over the years. Air Liquide have provided the last two. The current machine was still shrink wrapped. They have all been as noisy as one another.

I have mine stood on a rubber door mat which is then on top of my hallway carpet. HTH

Mine is very quiet, even when turned up to 6 lpm. My oxygen engineer did say that mine was new and that some of the older machines could be very noisy.

What kind do you have?

I have a Newlife Intensity (Airsep) supplied by Baywater Health, which goes up to 8 lpm. Most people I know have a long tubing so that the machine can be put in another room. Mine lives under the stairs, where it is quite during the day and absolutely silent when I am upstairs in bed.

Hi I'm sorry to say the home oxygen concentrators are loud and you will never get a quiet one, you will in time just learn to live with the noise. My husband had three of them going in the house to deliver the litres of oxygen he needed but sadly its a case of needs must .

mines loud too but I find by the morning when I wake up that it sounds a lot quieter. I think they must all be old machines that they keep recycling as they are expensive too.

and the alarm sounds every time I turn it on, have asked if it can be turned off but it has to be on in case there is a problems with the machine and I wouldn't know

You can buy Vibration Mats to help stop the noise. I think they also need servicing at regular intervals which should help as well.

Though I don't use it much anymore, when I did use it, I had the same problem, so I had the company deliver a 50' air hose and put the damned contraption in another room altogether. I found that it also ran up the electric bill quite a bit. All in all, it's far better to wean yourself off the contraption if you can.

I notice as the concentrator ages the noise does increase some. I utilize longer tubing and keep the concentrator in another room. I hope this helps.

yes sorry mine is very noisy too but you get used to it, mind you I have been known to sleep through tropical storms so am lucky that way xx

I've recently been given 2 new oxygen concentrators & they make hardly any noise Ask for them from your supplier Good luck!

The noise from mine is not a huge problem and I really only hear it when, as now, someone mentions them. My problem is the heat that comes from it. It is living in the kitchen atm and when I open the door the room is hot and airless. Any suggestions to make it more bearable would be gratefully received. Ii is on 2lts until I need to get mobile then 3llts.

My poor wife is in a skilled nursing facility following a stroke. The COPD patient has a 60 dBA loud O2 concentrator between their beds. The vibration and noise are ridiculously loud. I am going to bring in a Yoga Mat and request hospital staff to fold it and place it under the offending appliance to mitigate the nuisance. We'll see how it works!

We live in an RV full-time and although the oxygen concentrator is very quiet on its own (it sits in our living room slideout - no room anywhere else for it), because we do not have solid flooring like a home, it rattles. My husband watched TV long after I'm in bed, so it annoys him more than anyone. I finally put two small, plush bathroom type rugs underneath it and it has dampened it quite a bit. When my husband gets back, perhaps he's aware of some other solution. In the meantime, this works pretty good.
