Hi, everyone..just to say after 2 weeks in intensive care and a week on an ordinary respiratory ward ,the old man has come home! He was a little confused at first ,which lead to some weird moments ,and has no memory of being sedated but better every day. Thanks for advice ,and I shall keep "dropping in". Take care of yourselves.

So pleased. It's must be so nice for him to get back home after a very traumatic experience for you both, I hope your ' old man ' will continue to have a good recovery, and wish him well.

Great news Henacre, your old man has done well but he's sure to be a little weak and may do some crazy stuff for a while.

I was still hallucinating for a few months after being sedated, mainly when sleeping. I would talk to people who I thought were there, I was swinging my arms about thinking I was playing tennis and hitting walls and bed side furniture, I would kick out thinking I was playing football and even punched the pillow right next to my wife's head thinking I was fighting aliens so be prepared to do some ducking and diving for a while until those ICU drugs are completely out of his system. :) .

Glad you have him home after all this time and hope he continues to feel better each day.

I had 32 days in ICU and I had a second life going on in my head for some time but it is time that becomes the healer and to talk it though helped me loads.

Be well

Will be great for him to be back home and for you too - hope his recovery goes well x

Hi, I've recently got home after spending 3 months in ICU due to pneumonia. I've got emphysema, not on oxygen but on Symbicort & Spiriva plus Salbutamol when needed. I was given s tracheostomy & was on a ventilator for 10 weeks. I was on intravenous antibiotics & sedation & feed plus I had a catheter. I short, my body took a real bashing. Consultant says it will take about a year to get back to normal. I now eat reasonably normal apart from spicy foods. I find bathing quite hard on my breathing & walking is quite limited. I have a wheelchair if I want to go any distance. I really would like to go on holiday in the UK but I'm a bit scared I'll not manage away from home. Any advice will be greatly received, thanks & good health to you all 😀
