I have a FEV 31% and FVC 34% what does this mean I'm assuming it's not good.

31% puts you just in the severe bracket. It's better than mine at 24% !

Hi Cooper

It's not what you have got is what you are going to do about it (my philosophy)

So you now have your results what is your plan?

There are many ways to help yourself. Diet, exercise, local support groups, etc there is so much you can do and learn.

Why not tell us a little about yourself. So many people on here have probably gone though what you have. So feel free to share and ask questions

There are so many good and knowledgeable people on here. Feel free to ask or vent .- we are here - just ask.

It's true. It's not about the numbers. I still do the part time job I was doing 4 years ago when I was first diagnosed. Before I had a pulmonary consultant I used to have to stop 4 or 5 times to get up my stairs which consists of 14 steps. I was gasping for breathe when I reached the top. The correct medicine is a great help. I now go up them in one go and hardly get puffed. I visited my relatives last week and mowed an overgrown lawn about 50 foot long and 20 wide. I had to stop a few times but I did it. I am doing a lot better now than I was 4 years ago.

Keep active is my motto.

Puff that is such a fabulous reply...

Ive lost count of the new members who post about how scared they are after just being diagnosed and how worried they are about how its going to affect them in the future.

When i first came on here i was scared to death. I thought it was all down hill for me.

What you have said is such an encouraging and positive thing to share and im sure new members will see your reply and feel so relieved by your words x x

I'm glad I can help. I'm a positive person which helps.

I used to see my consultant every 6 months every June. Last year he said I may as well see him in a year as I don't seem to change ! Let's see how I get on this June. :)

Hello, well those results are better than my husbands! But to be honest I have decided not to worry about the numbers - in truth the oy thing I understand is how my husband is. I note that you say you are deteriorating more quickly recently - have you been back to your doctor? My personal experience has taught me to be proactive and keep making my husband go back until we found inhalers etc that help. Has your doctor mentioned pulmonary rehab? It is a course of monitored fitness and knowledge. You need a referral from your doctor but well worth pushing for it. Also it might be a good idea to ring the helpline on Mknday and ask their advise. Take good care and try to stay positive. My husband is still working full time - we are just a lot slower! Lots of love TAD xxx

Hi Cooper

Just another thought look at your triggers is there anything new about?

Just a simple thing like a scented block in the loo can adversely affect my breathing.

I gave someone a lift in the car the other day and her perfume nearly killed me!

Some triggers are obvious but others more subtle.

New furniture, paint or carpets?

So many things.

This may be an old post but I was wondering, isn't the fev1 31 divided by the fvc 34? In which case it would be 91% . I am sure there is something I don't know, but I had to ask. :)
