Well said Vashti. It was indeed the "white" men that started all the scalping... not the native Americans! People (including in the movies) always get it wrong. I too am always on the side of the "Indians". I have studied there culture, and actually stayed on a reservation in Arizona. I met the Chief of the Navajo and asked for permission to have my ashes scattered there when I pass ......he agreed.
My bedroom is made to resemble a log cabin and I thought you may like to see it? Not too good but awkward to take on a small space. XX

Thank you Jolyn. Not everybody's taste, but I like it. XX
Oh how fascinating....i love your room i would love to do mine and make it look like the Victorian era but these days im lucky if i can change my duvet cover.
I did not know that white men were responsible for starting the scalping its amazing how much we are influenced by the media and the movies and basically lied to by them :(....
Titanic is a classic one.....the working class families left ashore who had men working in the engine rooms etc had to feed each other and fight the company while star line for help to clothe and feed their families because they were offered nothing.........yet the families of some of the wealthy people were given gifts and toys etc...
Most young people ive spoken to about the film titanic with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have no idea the suffering the sinking of the ship caused to ordinary working class people its all just a love story
Some films almost change the events in history by the way they are shown and especially these days young people think if its on the tv or on the web its a true fact.
Thanks for that very interesting bit of information x x

The Indians were simply copying what they'd seen done to their own people...
I don't know about that Mandy, I don't think I'd have the patience ?? I have another room that's covered in Egyptian stuff, but needs redecorating again soon. Thanks for the compliment. XX
It looks a lot better when you're in it Sonia. In the winter I take the logs out, move the bed into the alcove and have an open fire - now that's really cosy.
Sounds it, love open fires, just looking at them makes me feel warm let alone sitting in front of a real one, suppose I could paint one on my radiator lol 😄😄
British Army's defeat at the Battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879, before Rorkes Drift made famous by the Zulu film. The soldiers of the day if they could grew full beards as it was easier to trim than shave with little water!
When they were attacked and mainly wiped out the native Zulu had not seen so much hair on the face, as trophies removed their Jaw bones complete with beards. As this news spread it was decided that a shaven face may be a better solution than a disfigured body that others or relations may see!
The Red Indian and Zulu were just part of a land Grab!
I visited Navajo reservations in 1995, very interesting culture. Also the dramatic mesas in the Four Corners area which i think are Hopi (my memory could be wrong here). They tell you to take pictures with your eyes, not your camera. We also went to Canyon du Chesne (sp?) which is Hopi ancestral land but now owned and managed by the Navajo. There were many Hopi visiting making pilgrimages to it, who were recognisable by being a quite different physique. Nothing is simple is it?
The way Native Americans have been served by mainstream politics is shocking.
Thank you 02. I also went to the Canton de Chelle- to Spider Rock. I agree with you on the treatment of all native people in their own lands - disgusting what men will do for their own greed.
The Pilgrim Fathers kept Native Americans as slaves apparently...Quakers tried to protest but were shouted down...
Love your bedroom...old photographs of your family perhaps? And just wondering if that is a string of teeth...hanging under the clock...probably priceless pearls...lol
You're almost right Vashti it's a necklace made out of wild cat claws. Bit Yucky really I suppose? I also have a tomahawk made from the mandible of a deer and a wolf's "face". ,. I had 6 shooter but someone broke in and stole it a few years ago, but I do still have a flintlock rifle. Lots of arrow heads etc.,
As you can see, that's just one side of the room there's lots more on the other 3 walls.
Not in the least yucky to me anyway...so long as the cats were well and truly dead first...please may I be a know-all and say that the wolf's 'face' is actually called a 'mask'...just one of those totally useless bits of information stored in a corner of my brain...lol...and I'm pedantic...!
I have some arrowheads but they're Neolithic and came from England...
Hi Nikkers, I love your cabin room, I have great respect for the North American Indians,I love their culture and wisdom here's a lullaby for you, huff xxx
I've just listened to it while lying in bed in my "log cabin". That was very thoughtful of you Huff - thank you. I love their music and bought several CD's while I was over there one time. Sleep well. XXX
Your right Nikkers the white people started the scalping because they got paid for every Indian killed, and it was a way of proof. The Indians were persecuted.
I am not a big reader but I read a book called Bury My Heart at Broken Knee it was a very interesting read about the Indian tribes and their decline (the film of the same name is not as good as the book - in my opinion).
