I just couple of days back upped my Vit D3 from 1000 to 2000.

But do you know if Vit D3 can cause diarrhoea Ruby? Ive had the runs for two days now, but also on Monday i cooked a rabbit which has been in the freezer a year. My friend said it should have been buried not cooked :( Got bad gripes, never have that kind of thing, horrid!

Hey O2

Sorry your having stomach trouble.Think you can blame the rabbit for that! What are you taking for your stomach?

I just upped my vitamin D from 1,000 to 2,000 also. Was going to do every other day but it didn't bother me so I'm doing every day. Are you taking it with something fatty? The only thing I noticed, is it seems to make me sleepy! Better take something for your stomach. I did notice if I don't eat something when I take it I might get a little nauseous.

Good luck

Rubyxx 😊

I don't think it was the rabbit Ruby. Im getting a sore throat now as well, probably a virus. Taking grated ginger root tea - it helps.

Are you meant to take something fatty with the Vit D? I thought it was fatty itself. I always take all vitamins with a meal - better to absorb vitamins with food.

You take care Ruby :) :)

Hi O2

I know how you feel but I didn't have the rabbit! Maybe a virus but first time ever for me in many years! Lol

Look what happens when you come on this forum - its contagious :D Hope you feel well soon SK. Not fun is it?

Healing thoughts to you :)

oo poor you O2 and Socrackers.

You could omit the 2000 D3 for a couple of days O2 to see if it's that?

A trick I learned long ago in N Africa when the kids got the trots was to give them finely grated apple. I peeled off the skin first and it was like a miracle (binding together what had seemed impossible).

Hope you feel very much better soon. Much love P xxxx

Hey P, where you vanished to?! Good to hear from you.

Bunny (rest of) has been recycled now, praise the lord ;)

Thanks for the apple tip but sadly i'm not able to eat raw fruit (except bananas) plays merry hell with my reflux.

Definitely a virus, besides the runs which have lessened today, I've been having headaches which i very seldom get but didn't associate with any problem, then last night real sore throat emerged.

And now the choking i always get. Phone appointment with GP this afternoon.

Where are you in the world at present P? Is everything going ok? Love to you :) :)

RIP little bunny πŸ˜”

Been a bit sad about Freddie, had visitors, got locked out of BLF with flaming pop ups telling me to login or login via blooming FB for a week then it wouldn't let me login so I finally changed my password. Had more visitors in the shape of two tinies called Daisy and Martha, had a row with their mother so she punished mope by taking the earliest flight home (bloody kids never grow up) as you probably guessed im not the rowing type.

Anyway, outcome is ive negotiated another 4 weeks out here. I just don't feel ready to go back and start renovating.

Just did a rare post about health though. so that's all good.

Listening to Lulu singing Shout on the radio, that's a cheery sound.

I really hope you're feeling better soon. You've had a rough winter. Let me know what the gp says?

Hey, when I get back how's about a girls weekend as I will live midways-ish for the four of us??? Must pm the others.

Gorgeous warm sunny day here, bliss. Loadsalove, P xxx

Brilliant idea P - I want to go and stick 2 fingers up to the school (promise i won't embarrass you though :D

Im know how much you must miss Freddie - i would love to have met him and shaken paws.

Fancy you getting locked out - i had a bit of trouble with a pop-up message telling me to join a community. Why? All a bit mad but im glad you're sorted now.

Sorry you've had angst with your visitors - disappointing when things don't turn out good.

Enjoy your 4 more weeks, Im envious but lucky as it turns out that i didn't come.

Much love, xx jean

Thanks huggs, its not wabbit, but a bl**dy virus, Im so fed up. Never mind, others have worse, it should pass ok. Off to docs tomorrow for chest listen, excitement of the day :D

Oh dear O2 I agree it should have been buried too - 1 year is much too long in the freezer! I reckon this has given you the runs. x

O2Trees profile image
O2Treesβ€’ in reply to

Should have given it the last rites cough :D. I know its too long but we've done it before - not long before we had at least one year old sausages from the farmers market and they were fine. But i guess its a matter of time if you do that, not really advisable. We're having a freezer clear out, and vowing to label everything with date from now.

But i think its a virus - bad throat now and still gut-ache and the rest, oh yukky-poo (literally). I know, too much information. Im gonna crawl to bed now with two hot water bottles.

Sleep well :) x

β€’ in reply toO2Trees

Oh dear not good. There are so many nasty bugs going round at the moment aren't they? You take care of yourself now and wrap up warm. Night night sleep tight. Trying to type this with a big furry purry kitten on my lappy - not easy! :) x

Hey stilltruckin

whats your take on elderberry syrup? I had the flu for a wk. No runny nose or coughing. My daughter had it 2 wks coughing and runny nose. I was taking my vit. D, honey and elderberry syrup. Never got it in my chest, like her.

Rubyxx 😊

Sohara profile image
Soharaβ€’ in reply tostilltruckin

Hi ST :) :) interesting read about the vit D I have been taking 4000 a day for the past year.

The bottom bit about the flu jab was a bit alarming though....Do you have the flu jab every year? I always have it, I know they did not get it right this year about which virus would be coming, but they so usually seem to be correct on this. I never knew there were any negative comments about the jab generally though

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply toSohara

I take 7000 IU/day in the winter and 5000 the rest of the year. The last time I had the flu, or even a bad cold, was about 8 years ago when the only vit D supplement I took was the 400 IU in a multivit. Sometimes it feels as though something of the kind might be starting, but it always goes away.

I've never had the flu jab. I'd consider it if I was still in the habit of visiting crowded places, but I think the benefits are over-hyped: cochrane.org/CD001269/ARI_v...

Morning Stilltruckin

You have this magic formula!

You should bottle it and sell it.

You would be a millionaire.

Its just so amazing how your severe copd and you never get sick. Yet everyone else (almost ) is constantly sick. It don't add up right.

Rubyxx 😊 😊

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply torubyred777

More likely most of the other 'unsick' simply don't have occasion to mention it.

Otherwise:

It's all/some of the supplements I take,

and/or most in the 'very severe' category tend to avoid any exertion, rather than exercising until breathless a dozen times a day,

and/or it's down to genetics.

stillmovin profile image
stillmovinβ€’ in reply tostilltruckin

This is interesting stilltruckin. I am alarmed by the flu shot comments. Antifreeze? Alzheimer's? This all seems a bit much.

I read somewhere in some place (maybe that's my memory going due to the flu shot?!) some scare about taking vit D? Do you know what that is? No need for a link, just your thoughts.

Also, I had no idea that strenuous exercise caused inflammation. How so? In people with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, yes we do overdo things so we have to be careful how we exercise but in the 'general' public, is strenuous exercise often followed by illness?

Thanks for input.

stillmovin

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply tostillmovin

Don't know about methyl alcohol (anti-freeze) but there are trace amounts of aluminium in the vaccine, and aluminium has been linked to Alzheimer's but in much higher concentrations. No need to worry.

Overdose of any fat soluble vitamin can have adverse consequences, but you have to take a very large amount for a long time. Off the top of my head 50 000 IU/day of D for a few months could make you ill, but just stop taking it and you'd recover.

The acute inflammation caused by vigorous exercise is good - feel the burn then allow a recovery period, makes you stronger. Too much, too often, too long, and it will turn into chronic inflammation - you'll become ill.

Never used elderberry myself, but it has scientific backing as an immune booster among other things.

wanted to tell you about post Dorris 59 wrote on my pain post. The one about the australia cream. Its a really good reply to me about turmeric. You should read it.Wish it was on the turmeric saga post. Question for you- what smells bother you? Another thing everyone talks about.

Rubyxx 😊

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply torubyred777

I'm not aware of having any particular smell 'phobias', just the usual - raw sewage, rotten eggs, halitosis, etc

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777β€’ in reply tostilltruckin

These are smells that make them have trouble breathing

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply torubyred777

Certainly the presence of an unpleasant smell will make me breathe as shallowly as possible in order to minimise the sensation. Is that what you mean?

I looked at Dorris's post about tumeric. It's possible to overdose on any therapeutic substance. "The dose makes the poison":

personal.us.es/mlopezlazaro...

Quote:

'Based on human studies, it is generally recognized that curcumin does not cause significant short-term toxicity at doses up to 8 grams/day. This dose of curcumin is considered suitable for trials in which curcumin is administered for short periods of time. This dose of curcumin is not completely harmless, however, as human studies have shown that curcumin at doses ranging from 0.9 to 3.6 g day for 1–4 months originates some adverse effects including nausea and diarrhea and causes an increase in serum alkaline phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase. . . .'

And to anyone who thinks I should have just posted the link and not the quote,

please look at the size of the article I abstracted that quote from . . .

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777β€’ in reply tostilltruckin

The breathing thing is not breathing shallow on purpose. Its trouble breathing. The post on turmeric I was surprised about the facebook she spoke of with all those members. The person that was complaining Bout the long posts was not meaning it for us regular members. I probably have you all mixed up! 😊

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckinβ€’ in reply torubyred777

Ahhh! You mean perfume, air-fresheners, etc, causing an allergic reaction? Never found it a problem personally, but it seems a lot of people do.

Could it be the vitamin D capsules........I. ask because many years ago I was prescribed a rather large dose of medicine in the form of an oily capsule, it wasn't long before my gut reacted. The problem

stopped some time after the capsules stopped and my gut returned to ' normal'

So don't blame the poor rabbit just yet. !.

Hi budgiesmom - it turned out to be a virus, sore throat and many classic viral symptoms. I did wonder about the capsules but the other symptoms make me think not. Nice to see someone speaking up for the rabbit ;)

Morning O2

How you feeling? Hope somewhat better. I was sick for a wk. Achey and chills, not stomach. The vit. D Budgiesmom is talking a about is 50,000 IU s. I refused to take that

much.I am deficient. Dr. Wants me to get it up to at least 4,000.But that 50,000 will bother your tummy. No more bunny rabbits for you ! Can't blame him for your virus .Right.

Feel better

Cheers, Ruby. Doc is phoning this afternoon. Im keeping the Vit D to 2000 at present.

Not sure if this infection, fourth this winter, is indicative of chronic bronchitis, but the mucus doesn't seem to come from that far down, more in the throat area quite high up.

Rabbit is such healthy meat but i feel so put off now, even though it wasn't its fault.

Hi Rubyred, thanks for this post as it hi-lights some really good issues. I was about to go out and buy some Vit D when I noticed it can cause health problems. I have made an appointment with my GP to ask for blood tests to see if I am short on Vit D. I shall keep you posted. I also mentioned Vit D to my nurse yesterday when I went for my blood test as I take Warfarin, she said taking any Vitamins with Warfarin is a dangerous thing and advised the trip to the GP. Take care, Maximonkey

Hi Maximonkey

I think anything to better ourselves that anyone comes across, should be posted so we can all judge if it would be something we could benefit from. Anyone taking blood thinners needs to be careful . I

know my dad took them and couldn't have alot of things.I read alot so I try to share what might help others. Plus it keeps things

interesting. It gets alot of good

discussions going.

You take care and let me know how you make out.

RUBYXX 😊 😊

helingmic profile image
helingmic

rubyred777 I cannot judge the effect of this, but I take it anyway, together with Vit C + zinc (incresing teh immune system), and acidophilus.

stillmovin profile image
stillmovinβ€’ in reply tohelingmic

Yep helingmic, I take Vit C/Rose Hips 1000mg, Pure Cod liver oil, Immunace, Magnesium Citrate, but I notice that the Vit D amount in the Immunace is very small, so might take more Vit D. It sounds as though it is very effective in keeping infections away, judging from what I have been reading from the others' input here. I think this winter has been very severe for most people with bronchial problems and practically everyone I know has had flu and head colds or chest infections of some degree or other (I am referring to those around me who don't have COPD or such things). I haven't had a cold or the flu but an ongoing chest problem, as mentioned in other input, with stubborn sticky green phlegm that won't budge and breathlessness. I definitely wasn't as bad as this last winter, so it seems to be a rough year for most of us.

xx stillmovin1

helingmic profile image

stillmovin1, Brilliant and still caution with this sticky sputum. I don't think you need to take tons of Vut D, but rather a regular input that will build into the body. I cannot remember the proportion, it's on the internet somewhere!

Keep taking your vitamins! I was feeling cold at 7 pm, took some Paracetamol. It's gone now. Shall watch this too! Mic

stillmovin profile image
stillmovinβ€’ in reply tohelingmic

Hi helingmic. Getting very concerned. This breathlessness and feeling that I have to cough and nothing coming up is going on and on. I think I have an infection but don't want to take my emergency antibiotics as I have already been on two doses within a couple of months not so long ago. Isn't it bad to take antibiotics so much? I don't know what to do. Will be seeing respiratory consultant on 3 March but that's another week or so away. When I go to the doc, they just tell me to take antibiotics. But surely this is just bad overall? What would you do? I definitely think the weather is making my breathing worse. stillmovin1

helingmic profile image
helingmicβ€’ in reply tostillmovin

stillmovin1, So annoying not to have any mucus to show up an infection. If no coughing mucus, you could suggest to doctor to take a blood test. This should at least show that your body reacts to an infection. What I am concerned with antibiotics is the β€œstop and start” process. You take some, you stop some and so on. In my opinion, the bug comes back all the time. Can you try to have the antibiotics (Clarithromycin or whatever) prescribed on a repeat prescription, in that way you could have a month course of it or more. (I’ve noticed that Amoxycillin does nothing for me, burnt out!) At the end of that kind of course, you could have a repeat blood test to see if body is still reacting.

Sorry, I’m no expert, but tacitly and explicitly this is what my consultant has left me with. I have a chance to wait a bit for sputum to come up, then dive on to antibiotics and take at least a fortnight antibiotics and up to 4 weeks.

Perhaps, with this in mind, phone the helpline (03000 030 555) to ask if that is a sort of thing you could do. Blood should show what travels with it!

Hope that helps. Mic

stillmovin profile image
stillmovinβ€’ in reply tohelingmic

Thanks Mic. I didn't think about the blood test suggestion. My other concern is that I am now seeing the doctor practically every week, not just about this problem but also the breast lump to be tested, a stomach problem and previous blood tests...They are looking at me with an 'Oh no, it is that one who does nothing but visit the doctor's' expression on their faces. I hate it. xx

helingmic profile image
helingmicβ€’ in reply tostillmovin

stillmovin1 Ti's only in your mind, don't feel guilty about those tests, since it's doctor's order. I hope there will be positive results for you. Pluck you courge and go and see them until you obtain what needs to be better.
