I know just what you mean I'm the same most nights with about 2 or3 hours sleep then such as last night a full nights sleep but feel really groggy. Some nights it's because of me coughing but not always .At the moment I'm just getting over a chest infection one of the worst I've had which frightened me 4 weeks now and I still don't feel right my breathing seems worse than ever I was given Antbiotics that didn't work so had the lab at the hospital decide which to use and at last seems to have worked. Glad I'm retired as I'd be no good for work I feel sorry for anyone who is employed. Don't know any remedy to help you sorry. Will think of you sleep.

Hi Adam,

I agree with pollyjj. Reading will help you fall asleep. It distracts your mind from whats worrying you. The mind can't think of two things at the same time. Didnt take your sleeping pill?

Doc won't give me sleeping pills she is frightened it will relax me too much and I will not breathe deeply enough.

Hi there, I just read a thing on FaceBook about " 4, 7, 8 " breathing to get you off to sleep. Apparently it is also on You Tube. It is very like the breathing we (people with COPD) use to control panic attacks. I quote:-

Breathe in through your nose to the count of 4: Hold that breath to the count of 7: Breathe out to the count of 8. Apparently you drift off to sleep with no problem. It may make you feel light-headed. I did it this morning and it certainly felt calming.

Hi england. Its coughing and clearing mucus most nights at 2 or 3 am until around 4 or 5 am. I have suffered this routine now since September and I am exhausted. I fall asleep at the computer and even when programming recording from TV to DVD!!! Driving is dodgy at times especially in the afternoon. thankfully my wife will drive usually. I also find treading very helpful if I cannot get back to sleep but lately I am so tired anyway from all the breathing exercises to clear mucus that I do not need anything.

Panadol night can help me or paracetamol and codeine. I always read a book for about half an hour in bed. I did read somewhere that the light from a kindle can keep you awake. fisher mans Friend for an irritating cough and blocked nose. Hope you find an answer.
