This is a photo of the village where I live, taken from across Kames Bay. This photo was not taken by me, but by a photographer on the island, but thought it was so good, as it captures the early autumn colour and light.

Just idyllic xxx
Hi Tad,
That was quick, I only posted it a minute ago!
Pleased you like it, as it is so peaceful and safe, and I get great peace and comfort from the beauty of nature.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Very pretty it is too. I know that the Gulf Stream keeps the Western Isles warmer than otherwise but the North Atlantic does a damned good job of making sure the brass monkeys can't breed. I have looked at my map and it is a fair distance you'll be needing to swim to hospital if you forget your purse. Rib
Hi Rib,
Generally speaking it is usually slightly warmer here in winter, but the wind chill kind of cancels that out unfortunately.
The main ferry route is about 7 or 8 miles from the mainland, so not too far, but too far to swim. We are not as cut off as many people think, as there is also a ferry link at the northern most tip of the island which takes you into Argyll, and is really beautiful but does not take you near a hospital unless you divert a lot and then take another ferry.
Oh Rib, I have just noticed you have done a smilie!! Well done and with only 1 finger, so if you can do that one, you should be able to do the others I sent you in another post. Just hover over them, and they tell you what is needed. I have made a list in my notebook of the few I know as I tend to forget them easily.
;p
hugs from Huggs xxx ;p you have to remember to leave a space between words and smilie and also not to put a full stop after a smilie.
How do you do the angry one Huggs? Happy today but never know when i might need it
Hi O2,
Its simply a colon followed by an x . Glad you won't need it today though. Talking about angry, the weather is angry today though. lol
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
just practising, thank you huggs
Hi O2,
You got it!! Anytime you see a new smilie, if you hover your mouse over the top of it, it should tell you how to do it.
I have managed to post some links of photos on the photo of my village thread.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Hurray, gotta a new one from Farmer's post below:
- always wondered about that one, thanks for hover tip
Hi O2,
The sunglasses one was one I couldn't remember earlier, but found out again a few minutes ago and posted it to farmer, and there is another one with hair which HU will not accept.
Did you get the links for my photographs, that you asked for?
They do work, surprisingly! I am not techie at all.
hugs from Huggs xx
Yes, i did, many thanks Huggs, see my other post.
Why won't HU accept hairy smilie?
xxx
Hi O2,
Yes thanks, I have just seen your other post, which I will reply to tomorrow, as I am in danger of my head falling on lappy and causing damage to both LOL
I have no clue why HU will not accept some smilies, if you read my post to Farmer you will see what happened when I went through the alphabet trying to find new ones. ha ha
Nighty, night, pleasant dreams,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Ha ha you are doing well with the icons Huggs Have you found any more yet? Lovely picture by the way. x
Hi Cough,
Thank you, I had a good teacher. The only other one I found was one with sunglasses on and I have forgotten it again, but involved the number 8 in some way. I will try and have a look and see where I got it from. The photo was not taken by me, but thought it showed the village well in the autumn light.

Hi MB, when can I move in, it looks stunning, even hunky was impressed and he don't like water or boats lol
Has the weather eased off up there ??? Hope ur still snuggled up. ❤️❤️ BB2 xxxx
Hi BB2,
There are plenty of properties for sale up here, but if you all move in with me, I only have one bedroom so it would need to be camping on the floor. I have posted other photos of the village and sunsets, so you should be able to find them alright. The other photos I posted are ones I took, and I think there are quite a few. Hunky doesn't like the water, oh dear, sounds like he needs some training there. lol
The weather started easing off late Thursday night and by Friday morning it was calm again. The wind is picking up again, and is howling down my chimney and windows are rattling. You just get use to it after a time. I have been told that the weather we had here last week, made the news in Australia.!! I never thought of our weather being broadcast in other countries before.
Take care all of you,
hugs from Huggs xxx
How do you do the hearts D.
Hi Farmer,
If you are talking about the black hearts that Sonia posted, I know they come from her phone, but no more than that. I am not sure if they are already on the phone or if it is an app. I don't have one of those types of phones, so don't know about them. Sorry.
hugs from Huggs xxx
Hi farmerD, I only have an iPhone and do everything on here, it's either emoji's or an app I'm not sure as it's a hand me down iPhone 4s when she upgraded, sorry I can't help anymore than that but sending u some some too. ❤️❤️
I seem to have emotes on my iPad but they don,t transmit.LETS see....
Grillicks
I've got loads but I can only use hearts on this site if I try the kisses ( lips ) it's just blank and wipes the any message after I've used them so I just stick with faces and hearts. ❤️❤️ Hope u work em out. Xxxx Sonia xxx
S,pose I can always just experiment :v and just hope I don,t send anything rude
Hi Farmer,
ha ha ,I tried that once, I just went through the alphabet with a few at a time, and how embarrassing that was. Whatever mod was on guard duty started having a bit of fun, and every time I tried to post, a pink banner appeared along the top of the page with a couple of smilies on it, with the message, " how embarrassing for us, we don't seem to be able to find your smilies" and had a big grinning face at the end of the message. lol I tried repeatedly, but each time the same message with grinning smilies came up. It felt like they were having a bit of fun with me and whoever I was typing with. It was quite funny actually. If you try it, it will be interesting to see if you get the same message. Good luck.

Hi Farmer,
Try hovering your mouse over a couple of mine such as the red face and the sunglasses ones and it will tell you what to do. Did you not get a message on a pink banner like I did?
I think they were having a bit of fun with me. lol
hugs from Huggs xx
Did,nt get any message, don,t use a mouse.I,m using my iPad don,t know how to hover.I,lol fire up the laptop one day and have a bash if I remember(which I won,t of course lol)why does spell check give me Lol instead of I,ll.?
❤️❤️ did this work?
Haa it,s easypeasy on the laptop 8
Hi Farmer,
Sorry, don't know anything about ipads or iphones, only that some smilies work on a laptop.
hugs from Huggs
Hi Huggs ,I refused to get a mobile phone because I get annoyed enough with the landline. When we go into the big house( hospital) there,s no phone for public use so had to get one.Now of course can,t do without the damn thing because we put everything on them.I did however realise the secret is Don,t tell anybody ones number hence no annoying calls lol.Ah technology :q
Hi Farmer,
I have difficulties with mobiles, as I live in a black spot for a signal, and eventually found one that I could use, just a cheap pay as you go, and only used for telephone calls, but I dropped it down the loo!! Don't ask. lol I got one from Amazon but it doesn't work, so will need to return it.
Glad you have worked out the smileys now.
hugs from Huggs xxx
Lol :))
it looks absolutely stunning huggs,a really lovely picture, but i can imagine what its like in a storm,, never mind huggs, itll be a minute lighter each night shorty, and before you know it, spring will be on its way . lots of kind wishes jimmy xxx
WOW!
Hi Offcut,
Pleased you like the photo, which I didn't take. However I have posted my own photos of the village and sunsets a few months ago if you are interested in them.
hugs from Huggs xxxx
That would be my ideal place to live but my wife is a city girl though and though so cannot see it happen.
Hi Offcut,
That's a shame, but depending on how mobile you are, you could always go somewhere quiet and peaceful for a long weekend or holiday. I have lived in cities too, but am a country girl at heart. The pace of life is so much slower and everyone has time for everybody else. I don't know where you live, but there is bound to be somewhere quite and peaceful near you if you can get to it, that is.
Where I live is within one and a half hours from a city, so not that far away really if able to do that. Also it is within an hour of a large town.
Hope you can get somewhere peaceful and quiet for a break at least,
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
I have decided I am going to restart fishing when the better weather comes back. I have found a few local spots that I can park right next to the peg made for Blue Badge holders.
Hi Offcut,
That is a very peaceful thing to do and will be nice and relaxing. If you can drive around then at least you can get to somewhere nice and quiet for a while.
No doubt we will hear how the fishing goes, and it won't use up too much of your energy.
hugs from Huggs xx
There is only one way to find out? But not until it gets warmer.
Hi Offcut,
That is true, and it certainly isn't the weather for you to fish right now, but gives you something to plan for and to look forward to, which is always good.
Will be waiting next year to hear how you get on. Trouble is in this country winter can go on until April, and other times it is warm in March!!
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
So true but we would be bored if it was sunny everyday!
We certainly would!! I use to enjoy walking the dogs in a storm but the wind goes for me now, but enjoy watching all the action though! I love it when the sea gets all whipped up, the hills change colour and everything changes. As I have said elsewhere in this thread, it can occasionally get a bit too much, and then we are completely cut off from the mainland and no power or phones, but you just have to get on with it. I am well prepared anyway, and have everything covered.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
That is truly beautiful.
Gallmoe.
Morning hugs, what a beautiful picture to see first thing in the morning, Where is Kames Bay, Looks really picturesque, Keep well, Bulpit
Just beautiful
Stunning x
Beautiful
That is a lovely autumn shot, looks very calm too. Looks a small village Huggs guess everyone knows everyone a bit like single streets on the mainland.. Thanks for sharing with us have a nice Sunday xx
Hi Katie,
Yes it is a small village, and very calm a lot of the time, but today and a few days ago it was a completely different story.!!
That view can be so different and has many faces to it, which I suppose is the same with most places. The photographer on the island is brilliant, I have to say.
Enjoy your day too.
hugs from Huggs xxx
Wemyss Bay is how I knew it. Has the name been changed? It's a really beautiful photograph!
OMG, fancy waking up to that view. You wanna watch it Huggs, we'll all be up there to camp on your living room floor
Hi O2,
I live in the middle of that view! This photo is taken from the other side of the bay, which is the view I see out of my window, if you know what I mean!! lol I have posted sunsets, a sunrise and other views of the village as well. Today is all black, grey and white with the sea all whipped up. I never tire of looking out and the view changes all the time.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx ps I think you have seen my photos which I posted before?
Ah, i got muddled. Not sure i have seen pics from you. I saw the recent scary ferry one. Do you have links handy? Particularly view of the village. Just cooked lunch for a friend and off for siesta now.
Hope you're having a good day huggs,
xxx
Hi O2,
I will try and find links for you, although I am not good at them really. I think when you see them, you will remember them as you asked me where it was and said you would drop in if you were up this way.

I have copied and pasted the above, but not sure if they will work, I have also posted a couple with seals I think, but If you go into my profile you will see if there are any more. I think these are the main ones, I posted but have more.
Hope you are enjoying your day.
hugs from Huggs xxx
Brilliant, thanks Huggs. The one i remember is the sunset with the palm trees (cordylines? I have them in my back garden). Its so lovely where you are. My memories of travels in Scotland, camping, youth hosteling etc. were just jogged by Jimmy - such a beautiful country. Now i can imagine you there.
Cooked for friend for lunch and she departed promptly after couple of hours - she understands about fatigue and pacing etc. Then I've slept most of day til now when of course wide awake (12.30)
Its been a mad time as Rita was on Question Time which was in Canterbury on thursday and made an intervention which viralled on Facebook, last count 2.3 million views. So hordes of people have been in touch which has been exciting but tiring.
Hope you're sleeping Huggs,
Love, xxx
Some of you live in such pretty places - I'm very jealous! Lol. X
Lovely just the sight of it must calm your mind/
Exactly emmo,
I don't get out much now, and it is very peaceful and calming to look out of my window and see the view, which isn't this one, as I live in the middle of the photo you are looking at. From my window I see the sea, hills and a few cottages. I do know I am fortunate in where I live and am so thankful for that.
hugs from Huggs xx
I'm much the same - I have a view across the hill over the rooftops to a small woodland, when I thought about being sensible and moving into the town to be away from the hill I live on (and can't get up!) I decided I couldn't leave my small peaceful view and look at traffic and buildings, so here I am. Wish I could post pictures but am not that technical.
Take good care.
Hi emmo,
I also have a short hill and then stairs to reach my home which I can just about get down if I take my time, but getting back up the hill I have to use a taxi ( which I have to use to get into town anyway) and then just take it very slowly going up the stairs. I have lived looking at the sea for 24 years and couldn't give it up.
You can post pictures, if I can!!! I am no techie by any means. All you do is go to write a post as normal, then scroll down a little to where it says add a photo, click on that, which will then say browse, click which takes you to photos stored in your computer and choose which one you want, and click and its done. You can practice if you want, as it also says remove image, so you can do all that before you click the submit button. Good luck. xxx hugs from Huggs
Right, I will try when I have time am trying to catch up at the moment after a flare up I think my New Year resolution should be to master some computer skills' Like you I have a strategy to get up hills - I go down the hill and then catch a bus up the hill. From the town I also get a taxi. Thank heavens I haven't any stairs!
Take care
Hi emmo,
Sorry you have had a flare up, and hope you recover soon. Believe me, I am no techie and live on my own with no one to show me, so I just sat and sat at it, trying various things and through trial and many errors I have managed a couple of things. I got so frustrated when I first got it, that the laptop flew across the room on a few occasions, taking careful aim to avoid the cat and make sure it landed on the couch.!! LOL Not to be recommended!!! Good luck,
hugs from Huggs xx
Wonderful sight, do you paint?
Hi Colours,
Glad you are enjoying the view. I would love to be able to paint, but no talent at all in that direction. There are a number of local artists who do some wonderful paintings though, and some people move or retire here purely so they can paint away to their hearts content.
I do enjoy photography, but am not in the league of the photographer who took this photo.
I have posted some of my own photos though which you should be able to find, one of the marina, sunrise, sunsets and some other views.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
that is so beautiful - I am so green with envy
Hi eyes,
I can take no credit for this photo, but it is a beautiful view, which I live in the middle of. My outlook is the hills, sea and a few cottages. You live in a beautiful part of the country too.
take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
How lovely is that.........which house is yours ??.
J.
Hi budgiesmom,
I just knew someone was going to ask me that! LOL It is difficult to describe accurately but to give you a rough idea, it is about 3 inches from the left hand side of the photo and the second row from the top, which gives me a clear view through to the sea. I know that's not much of a description but do not know how to mark the photo.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
such a beautiful place to live Huggs May I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Better New Year

Thank you. I hope you have a Merry Christmas too and better health in 2015.

Hi Argana,
Pleased you like it, and I hope you are keeping a bit better too since being in hospital for your assessment.

Huggs, that is a gorgeous photo and a magical place to live. I even enjoy storms as long as I am safe below decks or tucked up in the warm at home! Nature is fabulous in all her moods. Xris x
HI Xris,
It is a fantastic place to live, but lots of people don't like the quiet, although city people come to visit, and love it and some of them end up buying a small holiday home here. I can take no credit for the photo as it was taken by our photographer on the island who is great, and so helpful too. He has given me a few tips.
I love storms too, although some of them are a bit much, like when the power goes off for three days and no phones either. Usually the power cuts don't last as long as that though, but I am well prepared for them.
I use to love being out in the middle of storms walking the dogs and even walked along cliff tops in them, which looking back was not the smartest thing I ever did!! LOL
I too am a nature lover, and love it all..... apart from when people get flooded out of their homes, or hurt obviously. Mother nature is wonderful, which is why living in the country is so good as you can see her in all her moods as you say..
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
Hi Huggs, looks like a beautiful spot to live. What are the regular structures on the fields seen between the houses and the trees? Take care hunxx
Hi jenss,
I had to have a good look at them myself. That land belongs to a farm which is out of shot to the right and higher up than photo, so can only assume they have done some ploughing there, as it looks like vertical lines or could be bales of hay for the animals. They are not there all the time, so it must be something to do with the farm. Sorry I cannot give you a more direct answer.
Hope you are wellish or even better than that, and you take care too,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Just seen the photo looks stunning. Very envious!!! xxx
Hi Brooke,
Glad you like the photo. Do you have anywhere near where you live that you can get some peace and quite and look at lovely scenery. I do realise I am fortunate to live where I do, and never stop appreciating it.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Fantastic scenery relcting in the water.
Hi Mic,
Yes it is fantastic, the light and time of day was just right. I live about two inches from the left side of the photo and second street down from the top with a clear view to where this picture was taken from.
hugs from Huggs xx
Oh huggs that looks so heavenly .
Amazing photo.
so beutiful
Any more id love to see some more please x.
Hi tigger,
It is an amazing photo, but I can take no credit for it, as it was taken by the island photographer. If you go further up this thread to a post by O2trees, and in my reply to her I have posted 5 links to photos I have taken. You should find them alright, just go scooting up the thread and look for my links.
hugs from Huggs xxx
You are so lucky to live in a place like that where I live most of the town is built up very little green land left.
Friends of councillors get planning permission to build 5 houses on a piece of land no bigger than a match box we have a saying ''green belt land is only green till the local councillor bumps in to a builder in the pub ''
Hi onamission,
I am very fortunate to live in such a lovely place. I know what you mean about councillors giving permission to build on tiny spaces, they do it here as well, although it is not as obvious as in a town or city. Maybe you have nice parks or something like that nearby to enjoy.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
We do have some parks but they have started to build on them anything for a quick buck all I can say when all the land has been built on we will have some very poor councillors
That looks so lovely. Good for you.
Hi tinamg,
Glad you like the photo, but I cannot take any credit for it, as a local photographer took it. It is a lovely place to live.
hugs from Huggs xx
Love love love it. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Hello Huggs,
Well it just shows how much I remember!!! So sorry to get it wrong! My husband said he knew I was wrong all the time! Oh! if so why not tell me?
It's still a gorgeous picture....the light is fantastic!
Hi Lolly,
It was a long time ago you were here, and you just got your bays mixed up a bit that's all. ha ha.
I forgot to clarify in my answer to you that, of course Kames Bay is the stretch of water in the photo, but I am sure you will have worked that one out. As for your hubby, what can I say ? Sorry, that's men sometimes. lol
There is also a village called Kames on the mainland next to Tighnabruich ( haven't spelt that properly, don't think).
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xx
Lovely pic Xx
Stunning pic.
oh blimey what a stunning picture ...i think i need a week there x x x
HI BB1,
Oh well, you never know do you? Who knows what the future holds? So you know roughly where I stay, it is about 3 inches from the left side of the photo and second row down with a clear view to the sea. Glad you like it.
Are there gremlins on HU at the moment, as I keep getting messages that the page doesn't exist and weird things are happening?
Take care BB1,
hugs from MB xxx
Hi Huggs. Looking at your picture I am filled with envy. I live very close to a main road in London and although noise is buffeted by the houses in front of us I know it is there and so do my lungs. We've left it too late to get out of 'the smoke' but I'd love to be in the countryside or by the sea. Your island looks so beautiful.
Sara xxx
Hi Sara,
I am glad you like where I live, and although I wouldn't like to live in any city, they do have their advantages too such as amenities and SHOPS. Oh, yes shops, the memories of having choice and decent prices, but having the internet gets round that problem pretty well.
You know what, you may have not left it too late at all. Okay so your lungs have probably damaged by pollution, but if you are able and have the means to move to a quieter, peaceful and less polluted place then I would highly recommend it, as not only will it help your lungs a bit by making you less prone to infections, and stopping further pollution, it would be worth it just for the peace and quiet, and enjoying nice scenery and fresher air. It is always a much slower pace of life as well, and not all the rushing and hustling and bustling around.
I love the sea, and when I cannot get out I get great peace and joy from watching the views change by the season and the weather.
I came here 24 years ago, when at a crossroads in my life, and have never regretted it.
However being on an island does present difficulties if the ferries are off due to gale force winds which we get a lot of. Also, my hospital appointments are on the mainland and because I rely on patient transport that creates problems because they frequently cancel, and then if the weather is dodgy, especially now, it can be frustrating just trying to make it to a hospital appointment. I am due to go for a scan on the blood vessels on my neck on Thursday and at the moment the forecast doesn't look too good, so will have to wait and see.
However, even with all of that I could never leave the sea. There are lots of woods, lochs, beaches and hills too. Cannot get up the hills now, but they are lovely to look at.
If you do consider moving to a smaller place, then pm me, and I can say more about the pro's and cons as I have lived in cities and a large town too.
Take care,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Unfortunately my kids are Londoners Huggs as is the grand children who were born here. They'd never leave the smoke and I'd miss them too much. If they'd agree to go with me I'll be pming you in a shot. I was born on a farm in the wilds and walked over six miles to and from school not counting all the tree climbing, orchard raiding, etc., etc. we did on the way! I wish I could have brought up my kids as I was brought up. I still miss the meadows and rivers and hills of my home.
Thank you for your lovely reply Huggs. Hope you get to your scan okay and that everything goes well for you. You've had a rough time of late and need some good news.
Lots of love,
Sara xxxx
p.s. I love wild weather so I'd fit right in there!
Hi Sara,
Family is most important, and I understand your reasons for staying where you are. Is there not a quieter or more peaceful place within easy reach of your family? Or if it is a bit away you could always have them for holidays. Failing all that, and I don't know how mobile you are, you could always plan little holidays in the country, or long weekends somewhere by the sea or in the country.
I am only suggesting these things as I can sense you love the country, and I know how I would feel if I didn't have the sea.
I was laughing to myself as you referred to London as the smoke. I live in a little village as you can see, and the small town is two miles away, which is how I refer to it. I will say I am going into the smoke today!!! Its really just a small town, and when I go to the mainland, it is the big apple. lol
Take care, and thanks for your good wishes tomorrow.
hugs from Huggs xxx
