I believe they are doing trials on these springs at The Royal Brompton, and so far the results are very positive

Yes. saw this - there was a lot of posts about this process about a year ago but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was called. Anyway at the time I asked my Dr about it and received a really shocked expression back and she mumbled something about 'they didn't have anyone who had this done', but one of the members had this I do know and it cost about £8000 at that time. It seems a perfectly logical idea

to me.

`This is till in the experimental stage. I went to the Royal Brompton earlier this year after being referred by my GP. Dr Shah explained to me that it's only for selective patients. Those of us with Bronchiectasis can't have it because these coils/springs cause infections and that would be a death sentence to us. They also have to be replaced over time, so it's only a temporary solution for now. Let's hope there's a better answer on the future, as for all other illnesses.

Hi

Just to let you know the risk of infection is very low (about the same as just having a standard bronchoscopy procedure) and they never need to be replaced. Just like cardiology stents they stay in the body for ever.

Well, that's not what Dr., Shah told me- and he should know!

Hi Rememdium,so glad you posted this as I feel people are fed up of my ramblings,I have an appointment in Doctor Shahs clinic in February so watched. It,s valves being discussed in my case but on a research basis but I would be happy to try these coils if I,m suitable. It,s all fascinating stuff.I guarantee an old scarecrow like me won,t be shown on telly lol.Regards D. :D

I saw the programme too and it looked VERY positive - they did say it was in the experimental stage at the moment and that it won't be available on the NHS for several years - but definitely gave me some hope for the future.

First ever comment - I live in the IOW - or God's Waiting Room - so The One Show airing about the guy with coil implants has been viewed with interest by many residents. I intend to check availability and price by going private - will let all know the results.

Hi DecD just saw your comment on the Coil implants. How do My husband and I go about checking availability and price. We are not very good on computer so any guidance from you would be very helpful. Hope you can help. Thank you.
