I'm meandering again.

My mobility is now so limited that journeys outside the house are confined to the odd hospital appointment and my entertainment from the pleasure of a leather couch and a 65 inch television set of which I am unashamedly proud.

My eyes having become a further casualty over the years.

Not everyone will be as lucky as I have been.

A world war had been and gone, exciting goods were arriving in the shops, science fiction was becoming reality and yet we still find ourselves in an era of where people were still killing each other, as though the taking of human life was more important than saving one.

Why are some people so desperate for power while the rest of us just want to live?

And that craving desire for wealth when the majority of them coudn't spend what they already have, not if they lived a thousand lifetimes.

I remember coast lines sporting miles of beautiful beaches, the lushness of the jungle and

it's trees, the bushes and edible branches laden with fruit reaching out to the very ocean itself.

The poor tourist, today they have to pay for what I once had for free.

As for the real jungle and sandy beaches I can’t see any place for them in any future world of Hotel conglomerates and out of town shopping centres.

Gone like the Ironmonger with his boxes of nails and blacklead polish. The Baker, Butcher, Haberdasher, Lipton's, The Milk Bar, Home and Colonial, Vegetable, Hairdresser, Fishmonger, and many, many more.

There are still places like that left, just as there are people like myself who can reach out and feel the magic of having real memories on which to reflect and walk through, places of what once were part of my earthly paradise.

There is still so much to see, even for those with stamp sized gardens that have not yet been concreted over to make room for that second family car.

Perhaps the youngsters of today will still be happy in their old age, it is just that somehow I just can't visualise looking back on to the social media and feeling that it had been as important to me as seeing an English garden awakening to the warm spring sunshine.

Keep the faith good people, believe in tomorrow and stay positive.

So well said eightyplus, you've summed up today's world perfectly. I dispair at what we are hearing and seeing every day that is happening all over this planet.

It's a very frightening place for the young ones and I can't see it getting any better.

Man and his greed for money and power is bringing us all down and I fear for my grandkids' future.

Shame isn't it, but one thing that hasn't changed is money makes money, and the working class can't enjoy the beauty of life and nature anymore due to working all hours god sends just to survive and provide basic needs for their families, fast food cuz that's all the have time for, drugs and alcohol are fife just so people can forget reality, statistics say we are living longer due to medical break throughs, I disagree, the older generation are cuz they had better quality lives to start with, good quality food, ( home grown veg with all the goodness still in em not mass produced veg that looks the same but somehow removing all the goodness, lots of exercise in fresh air not fume filled skies, ( people rode a bike to school or work, played outside in the fresh air ) my generation are dying of strokes, heart attacks , due to some being obsese for eating junk, sitting in doors on computers, phones, watching 101 tv channels not ever experienced playing in corn fields, scrumpping, or just of stress of trying to survive in such a competitive world , always having to try and keep up with joneses, pity, technology is fantastic but it's also killing the planet and everything that lives on it, karma is a bitch, and Mother Nature finds a way to fight back, that's something even the rich can't control or buy, take care x Sonia x

This makes me smile, yet I feel sad that so much has gone. Our "Mr Holland" the ironmonger, always wore a dirty khaki apron and had a cigarette in his mouth...his floor was covered in sawdust and he was always smiling. He had hundreds of little boxes on shelves and if it took him half an hour to find something he never complained...and you could buy one or two nails or screws - you didn't have to buy a whole packet. :p I love to watch black and white films, as it reminds me of how polite and kind people were to one another during and immediately after the war.... Ok, the bombings were scary, our house was demolished, one never knew what they would see when they came out of the underground platforms in the morning....but everyone was helpful and it was great fun playing on the bombsites :) Ooops I had better stop here or I will go on all night....it's the respect and kindness I miss. Stay well :)

I'm glad that some of you enjoyed our little trip back to earlier times.

Just think of any games played by boys and girls in the Thirties and Forties, we got a little bit dirty (building up immunity) getting lots of fresh air (normally found outside the house) having a great time playing together without racial problems and how did we manage it and why? Because we were kids doing what kids did best, playing our games before the grown ups interfered and told us Cowboys and Indians were making us antagonistic towards each other. They had already forgotten Hitler and Stalin.

Have a nice nights sleep dear friends ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tomorrow will be another beautiful day.

I too have so many memories which have become dreamlike. They all seem such a long ago but I treasure them. Even the bronchial periods as a child and liking the taste of Venos cough medicine are nostalgic. I wonder how much the present day 20+ olds will reflect on their childhood memories when they are ancient. What will they be facing in another 60 years???

pergola1. That is the exact point. Perhaps the future is intended to be clinical and colourless.

Me? I think I will accept what I have to put up with regarding my health issues and continue to enjoy and appreciate all of the beauties nature has and continues to offer.
