I got diagnosed with emphysema in feb. I was told a couple of months ago that my co2 levels was really low. I always thought like with my mum if you have that disease you retain your co2. I'm just sat here woundering if there is something else causing how breathless I am a long with my low co2 levels.

Hi everyone just woundering if any one can help me
Hi Michelle I'm not an expert on this. I'm sure someone will be able to explain it to you. Many on here are very generous with their amazing knowledge. I look forward to some details too.xx
Hyperventilation is the usual cause of abnormally low CO2 level . . . wisegeekhealth.com/what-is-...
But are you quite sure they said CO2 rather than O2 ?
Do you possess an oximeter?
I have emphysema and I find I get very breathless when I feel stressed, worried or anxious. Did they mean O2.....also, if you are worried about your Shortness Of Breath, then do go to the doctor and make sure you are not getting an infection. I left it far too late a couple of times and that isn't good!! Take good care of yourself
Hi, I to have emphysima, for 14 months my blood pressure was low, my 02 levels were very low and I was breathless which got quickly worse and I am now on oxygen 16 hours a day.. My GP insisted it was COPD.
After a lot of bullying I got my GP to send me to see a Respiratory Consultant, turns out after tests that I have left and right sided heart failure.
Please read some of my other posts, and really push your GP to have some tests done before you end up like I did.
hi honey i was going to pm you today.............whats happening what did the doc say about low c02..... is this a recent issue i dont remember you mentioning it before x
Hi they just say my gas exchanges aren't right. My co2 levels are very low and my oxygen levels are low. He can't understand that either. I took my son on Wednesday to see his respitary professor. He was asking who my consultant was cause me and my son go to the same hospital. He seemed more interested in what's happening with me. I've known my sons professor for years. So I mentioned it all to him so I think he may look in to my case. I've been to have my oxgygen checked this morning but the machine wasn't working. So ive got to go back next Friday. I see my consultant again in December. Apparently newcastle have now got my referal.
Hi peterk1 I'm under a consultant at hospital. I was refered to him in jan this year. He told me I had dyfunctional breathing. But to be on the safe side he wanted lung function done I went 2 weeks later within a hour of having the lung function done he rang to say he wanted me in hospital as my results was bad. I refused as I have 3 children. So he suggested a ct scan I went for that and saw my consultant a week later. He said it showed empythysema. But he was not sure that was causing my breathlessness. He he wanted a scan done on my heart that showed that There could be a reason why I was breathless as the blood was getting round properly. So now he has referred me to Newcastle for accessment for a lung transplant.
You must check out that you do not have an infection as this is the most common cause of increased shortness of breath. I keep steriods and antibiotics at home at the ready for the slightest signs of infection coming on. Weather and humidity levels and pollen and general air quality can dramatically effect my breathing also. Its a delicate balance. try get singed uop for a Pulminory Rehabilitation course. Its very educational and we all need to know as much as we can possibly know about this condition.
I've been breathless for 2 years now on 15 hours of oxygen. I keep steroids and antibiotics in the house. My physio is waiting till my oxygen is stable before he refers me to a pr course.
