Good morning Edwina, Both my husband and myself both suffer from COPD and have several other illness, my hubby is also 74. We are going to Benidorm in Oct and I too was finding insurance costly, then someone told me about EHIC, (yes it is the same as your EHIC card but they also insurance) and believe me it is really very good and not at all expensive, I am paying 72 pounds for 10 days. I hope this helps you . Good luck and all the best Julia
Hi Julia,I rang EHCI last week & they won't cover him,he also has a Leaky Heart Valve,so they won't cover any Pre existing medical conditions, they will however give cover for £12-80 p which dosen't cover any medical condition, which is too much of a risk to take.
Unfortunately Edwina it is the oxygen that puts up the premiums. I went to Canada for 2 weeks in June and because of the oxygen the cheapest I could get down to was just over £1,000! When I started looking some companies wanted silly money and I think I started at £3,000 with a lot not even quoting me especially as I wanted to go to Canada. If you haven't already tried them try AllClear Travel Insurance that is who I went with in the end. Hope you find a cheaper alternative.
look in Google for" pre existing conditions holiday insurance" It is best to shop around but you can get it loads cheaper if you exclude the copd but have cover for everything else. If you need to go to hospital have the euro card and make sure that you go to a spainish hospital that is state run not private as they should accept the euro medical card.
People with pre-existing can ask for a specific thing NOT to be part of the cover. IE: I have a heart problem too but is sort of under control so I could ask for that not to be covered and if I had break of a bone it would be covered as long as I did not break it while having a heart attack! If that makes sense?
I was declined even by Saga!! Try Staysure and be sure what they cover you for. Some of these cheaper companei s will not cover you for being brought home if you should die while away and all manner of other situations. Sounds morbid but that could cost your relatives a whole lot of money.
Hello Hallentine, already tried & they refused to cover existing medical problems,as soon as you mention oxygen, they don't want to know, but thanks for the suggestion,& for the information,if I do get any cover I will make sure that I read all the small print
Hi Edwina47. Sorry to hear of the trouble you are having. Give stay sure a try.
