Definitely. It is dangerous to mess about with medical machinery. If your consultant feels you need this s/he will arrange it - including all the relevant tests to see that it is suitable for you.

Yes you do Scruffycat. Have you been diagnosed? CPAP masks can be bought in the UK without a prescription, but not in the USA.

Sounds like I may have jumped the gun slightly. I hope so.

You don't need a prescription but you need a clear diagnosis of sleep apnoea on maybe a docs summary or a note from your GP. It was recommended that I have a Bi-Pap machine and the NHS waiting was so long I just bought one until I get my appointment. I do have a clear diagnosis of central sleep apnoea, though on GP's summary not a prescription. I just emailed it and the place I bought it from were happy with that. It's worth noting that the place you get it from will not let you have a CPAP machine unless you know the pressure as its a fixed pressure with CPAP, instead they will sell you an APAP will automatically adjusts the pressure for you.

Thanks Suzey, with the unusual spelling. Sounds like you know more than me.
