Went to the opticians today and the eye test was free, my prescriptions are now free, all because I am over sixty.
Good to know there are some benefits to getting old.

Just a pity you have to get old to get these benefits
But the alternative is NOT getting old - and that's worse!! There's nothing wrong with being old except your skin doesn't fit properly, everything seems to drift south, pains in muscles you never knew you had - apart from that it's a walk in the park - as long as you stay interested and curious about everything.
My view to anyone who is in their 60s. Lucky, lucky so enjoy as much as you can. Husband and I were both well enough to enjoy the UK and well beyond. So many memories, photos, guide books, postcards and fridge magnets. so make the best as much as you can x
That is good news
I didn't find out until I was 61!! Ha ha, had been using an HC2 low income certificate. BUT, just found out being 60 doesn't entitle you to free optical or dental so if you are on a low income and don't have income support or other qualifying benefits, you will need to apply for the HC2.

Not 60 yet, but not far off, so all good information, thanks x
my other half reached 60 last august, he got a free travel card as living in a london, but he got something totally uxexpected for free from the n.h.s, .......... a free self testing kit for bowel cancer, won;t go into the details of how you do it, incase anyone is having their breakfast/ lunch / tea, but they are very sweet and give one 3 sticks for 3 samples, hubby said he did not know what was worse, him having to " provide " the samples, or the poor sod in some lab having to deal with piles of other peoples S--T all day !! anyway he,s all clear & its same time next year for 3 X years.
just remember that old clarks shoe advert from years ago -- act your shoe size - not your age, so its 8 for me & 11 for him.
think it said you test yourself once a year for three years in a row, then they leave you peace ???
Hi Riverbank sounds good to me it all helps. Janexx
The test is every 2 years after age 60 up to age 70.
Yes it's good that it's not all bad news! M
Ha ha ha I know just what you mean; the first time I did it I said 'never again' then of course when the time came, I did. Can't not take up the offer when nhs are interested in our well being and working to detect things before they develop and get out of hand.
Still laughing at the replies x
I am still laughing at actually receiving the Test Kit just after my birthday and how difficult it was to organise ie ; what container to use and how to go about it! I was " relieved" in more ways than one when I had finished the samples and posted it off. Oh no do I have to do it all again next year?! Someone is having a Laugh!
Once every three years. Have just completed second test on reaching 63. Can also get ten percent discount at B and Q on Wednesdays ! Doesn't life just get better
