I am 61 and am a never smoker with the lungs of a 4' 3" woman of 170, yay!! I was told at 30 that I had the lungs of a 90 year old. I am still fairly fit and well, so try not to worry too much. Good luck with your tests.

I am 43 with the lungs of a 103 year old. You aren't doing so badly. You have given up the fags which is the main thing. It will be a shock but this is just a number they give you. Eat healthily, try and stay well and try not to worry - easier said than done - if you remain concerned go and dee your GP again. Marie

I am only just 62 and for the last year My reading has shown that i have the lung age of a 90 year old. Don't worry, go to pulmonary rhab group and learn how to manage your illness. I have recently travelled all over Vietnam but would never have had the confidence before I attended pumonary rehab.Good luck to you.

I am verging on being 65 years old. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in 1994. They didn't tell me my lung age. I've just seen my pulmonary nurse and told her it was quite a while since I had spirometry. she told me she didn't need to do this as she knows that I have advanced bronchiectasis.

Nevertheless, she wrote a glowing report for my GP, telling her I was well and knew what my condition implied. she mentioned that I'm going to the gym during the week. I must say that it's that that keeps me in good shape.

I even met a young guy at the gym who showed me how to use the cage of weights to pull to reinforce my triceps. He told me to move slowly when pulling the weights because that is more bemeficial than zooming through.

I encourage all those who feel scared of not breathing properly to embrace the gym. It guilds your self-confidence, your stamina, regulates your hunger and sleep. Within 6 months, you will be better, that's a promise! (I'm no politician! I just speak from my own experience of having been with oxygen bottles to not using any and walking fairly well).
