I have severe copd and the pharmacist... - Lung Conditions C...
I have severe copd and the pharmacist refused to sell me cough medicine, can't get rid of this cough can anyone give me any suggestions.
Speak to your Dr. Cough medicine is a no-no for me (I have bronchiectasis) as it can suppress my breathing.
I get codeine linctus cough medicine off my doc, it really works for me even with my copd and bronchiectasis. I dont tske it if my cough is productive.
I couldn`t get covonia , which I thought was great , he gave me a glycrin honey based mixture but it was no good for me ,so i will ring the practice nurse and see what else there maybe
to control this cough, the best is to learn to cough up. if the mucus is too thick, ask your doctor about it, je may prescribe some Mucdyne or Carboceistine to make the mucus more fluid. If you could, ask to be referred to a pulmonary nurse team. They would tell you about clapping of the chest, Active Cycle of Breathing Technique or ACBT, see an example on YouTube
You could be prescribed a flutter device to help you with coughing up. These are your solution.
I have bronchiectasis, so I shouldn't take any sirop. I did have Covonia Night Time to help me sleep. But coughing up will help you a lot, and a lot more satisfying than any sirop which could impede your breathing rather than helping you.
Thanyou for all my replies really helpful. First time on this site, good to know there is support when u need it.
I also have Bronchiectasis, so I don't usually use a cough syrup either. But when in hospital the nurse on the respiratory ward gave me Simple Linctus, so now I keep a bottle in to use when my cough is not productive.
