Not me Trees, I am old enough to remember the white farmers butchered by Mandela's ANC. Still, I suppose one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. It all depends where you are standing at the time.

Yes it does, Bobby, especially if the place you were standing was under the oppression of apartheid. If there was butchery against white farmers it was over a much shorter timespan than the many many generations of Africans suffering under brutal apartheid oppression.

But Im sure you would agree that there are few freedom fighters (or terrorists if you want to define Mandela that way) who reconcile so fully with their opponents. He was consistent in preaching forgiveness and his friendship with de Klerk when he left Robbin Island was inspirational. On the news just now he was quoted as saying that when you fight for a principle you can still make friendships with people from the other side (i'm paraphrasing).

I suspect we are coming from different positions here Bobby so we may have to agree to differ.

I respect your right to hold a different opinion to mine Trees. Our personal experiences shape us and we all see things from different viewpoints. As you say, we must agree to differ on this one.

Good for you,Bobby and Trees to respect each other's opinion. For me, Nelson Mandella was a very old man, who had led an eventful useful life. RIP
