Hi Everybody. I had a heart attack in 2011 and was fitted with 2 stents. Early 2012 I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, then after a couple of months I was diagnosed with lung cancer. In October I had my right hand Lung upper lobe removed. After one year I still feel a lot of discomfort from the operation and am taking 6 or 8 paracetamol a day. My question is:- is anyone else having the same problem.

Welcome rustydexter, I am not having the same problem so I am sorry I cannot help you. There are people who use the site who have IPF and carers of same, there are also people who have had LVRS (lung volume reduction surgery) and those who have had lung transplant, I think also a couple who have lung cancer but I am not sure how often they post to be honest.

I just wanted to say hi. Hopefully someone will be along to chat with you about similar health diagnosis and advise about the after discomfort from the operation you have had.

Hi rusty and a very warm welcome to you. I am sorry you have had such a rough time and are still in pain. Have you contacted your GP or consultant about the problems you are having? I had a lobectomy in 1963 but not for the same reason, so I'm afraid not much help to you hun. Agree with Blakey it would be helpful to 'phone BLF on Monday.

You too. I know just what you mean about 'at times'! Fred moults more than 50% of the year grrr. I groom him every day (not out of love but to keep the hairs & cleaning down)!

Fred was Ben when I got him at 7 months but we already had a Ben in the household and my daughter said that her boyfriend would be terrified every time I shouted at the dog!

How old is yours?

We believe he is about 10 (he was a rescue dog from sunnyside) we had him when he was two however when I got the chip checked it turned out he was four. He is still like a puppy at times(a typical Lab)

Hi Rusty, You've certainly had a pretty rough time of it with one thing after another.

I can't help very much but I do know that Paracetamol are rubbish for anything but mild pain. I have arthritis and fibromyalgia, and they just don't touch the pain. You need to get a stronger pain killer off your docter. Something not too addictive. Welcome to the site.

Hi Rustydexter, I have had very similar problems to your own. Right lung lobectomy(removal) resulting from cancer. This was done five years ago and although I also have COPD I am still fighting the disease and making slow progress. Like you I also take quite a number of painkillers, paracetamol and amytripline but these are not as a result of cancer or copd. Don't give in things can only get better. All the best to you.

Hi Rustydexter,With having had a lobe removed I'm guessing they also did a Pluerectomy(bonded remaining lung to ribcage).This in itself brings longterm discomfort as there is no longer a sac of fluid around the lung to act as a shock absorber so to speak.

Hi Wiskas thanks for your reply.I am not sure if the surgeon did a Pluerectomy I will try to find out . I did say to him it felt like he had put in a roll of chicken wire he looked at the Ex.rays and said not but he said he had bound my ribs together with string .The Surgeon was an extremely nice man and I have a great respect for him. It's an old post I know but... I recently had a bullectomy (large part of RL upper lobe removed) and pluerectomy, I was told on numerous occasions and by different people that the pain from the pluerectomy will be the worst and the longest lasting, sometimes up to a number of years after.

Probably not the answer you wanted but it surprised me that you were not advised similarly. I got the idea they were trying to stress the point to me repeatedly.

I am 8 weeks into my recovery and most of the physical damage pain (to ribs and muscles from the op) has all but gone but I still get quite harsh pain from the pluerectomy throughout the day so I guess they were right!
