Hi I was diagnosed with COPD about a year ago , and just returned to work after a month off , chest infection, had a previous one in November. Certainly knocked me for six . Thank goodness for the rescue pack . Alls a bit daunting really as I don't know what stage I am or anything ,and not very good at asking the questions. I think I've probably got myself in a bit of a state as My mother passed away with lung cancer 2 years ago , this happened within 5 weeks of diagnosis, and was horrendous to watch . So of course hearing I have a lung condition doesn't help . Don't want to sound like I'm feeling sorry for myself as there's people a lot worse than me . Just pleased I've found somewhere I can share my thoughts and feelings and who understands.

Hi I only asked my consultant the last time I saw him in December. What stage I was at he said I was stage 2. Witch is moderate. Then he said he dosnt go by the stages. As everyone is different. No 2 people are the same with COPD. Sorry to hear about your mum. But it dosnt mean the same will happen to you. I also lost my mum 5 years ago due to cancer of the esophgous. She passed away 3 days after diagnosis. Please try to stay positive I know it is hard. And not to let your COPD rule your life. Ask you GP to referr you to the pulmanoary rehab course. That is a exersice and education course for people with lung problems. And you will meet other people with the same condition. I have been on 3 courses and found them very helpful. Take care xx

Hello and welcome. Great response from Nottobad . I'm supposed to be Stage 3 (severe) but still work full-time, and lead an active life (including 4 gym sessions per week). We have a newsagents in an ex-mining area, and have a lot of elderly customers in their 80's and 90's who have had copd and other chronic lung conditions for many years, and they're still going strong!

Why not discuss your anxiety with your GP, and maybe try some relaxation techniques or yoga.

Good luck, and I hope that you feel a bit perkier soon.

🙋 Hi,

I am similar to Pam, diagnosed stage 3 and work full time and exercise for 25 mins each day more at the w/e. My consultant says the more you can do, the better you will be later.

Got to go, very busy here at work :)

Thankyou everyone for your incouregment , and the PR course seems a good way to go . Unfortunately I do have another health issue and various other problems going on , which can restrict what I can do , but from what I've been reading on here the course would be perfect in guiding me in what I can do. I have an appointment with the nurse 1st of march , so fingers crossed she can sort this out . Thankyou everyone keep well

I have arthritis too. But exersice is good for both conditions. Hope your appointment goes well take care x

Hello Sjac, and a warm welcome from me.

You could not have come to a better place for help and support. Some great replies on here for you which I hope you will find helpful to allay your fears. That's the trouble with copd, infections are harder to fight off because you just don't have the capacity or healthy tissue to kick it into touch so you have to help your body in other ways. In other words, the spirit is willing but the flesh is very weak. I am sad to hear of your dear Mum dying so soon after diagnosis, as this also happened to my darling husband. We had 31 days but neither he nor I wanted longer - I am sure you understand why. Why shouldn't you feel sorry for yourself? We are here for you. You can talk to us about anything, your concerns, your private worries, anything.

Flags out for the rescue pack! I have just finished one and it worked well. I've got moderate copd.

xx

Hello Sjac, and welcome.

I'm very sorry about your Mum. It must have been so hard for you, and probably still is. I hope you'll spend a lot of time on here, and you can chat about or ask about anything you like.

Take care of your self, Sue x

Welcome buddy, i am new as well. I have recently been diagnosed with cancerphobia, which is known to be worse than having actual cancer. My family has abandoned me, as have my friends. I have no one but this British Lung Foundation community, i love you all dearly.
