"After 20 minutes your blood pressure and pulse return to normal.
After 24 hours your lungs start to clear."
Keep going! And be proud! xx

And the carbon monoxide you have, not sure where but someone will know.
"A person who smokes a pack of cigarettes per day will commonly have a CO level of about 20 parts per million. A two-pack-a-day smoker may have a level of about 40 parts per million."
"Most people will not experience any symptoms from prolonged exposure to CO levels of approximately 1 to 70 ppm but some heart patients might experience an increase in chest pain. As CO levels increase and remain above 70 ppm, symptoms become more noticeable and can include headache, fatigue and nausea. At sustained CO concentrations above 150 to 200 ppm, disorientation, unconsciousness, and death are possible."
hello stilltruckin okay so now that im not smoking (get me!)does that leave, or hang around please excuse my ignorance on this? have always been a really heavy smoker and i do have heart probs please can you explain?thankyou for your interest hope to hear from you re co. Janexx
Excess carbon monoxide will leave your body 4/5 hours from the last exposure.
However, it's quite normal for there to be a background level of up 3 parts per million in a typical home, and up to 10 ppm near heavy traffic - occasionally much higher in rush hour - up to 50 ppm.
Also a small amount is produced within the body as part of normal metabolism, and temporary exposure to low levels of CO has medical applications.
Hi stilltruckin thankyou for replying, ok so in theory and hopefully all should be alright?I have a rotten bruised feeling left side of chest will keep my eye on it doesnt wanna be any nasties having flu jab next week!hows you doing? Janexx
Well, assuming you haven't relapsed, your CO level is now that of a nonsmoker, and the nicotine in your body will have receded to a subjectively undetectable level, unless you've been using some other delivery system. But your dopamine and serotonin levels are also decreasing as monoamine oxidase is no longer inhibited by tobacco smoke. You'll get used to it . . . eventually.
I googled left hand chest pain and discovered it's a pretty common concern with many possible causes, stress being one . . .
I'm doing fairly well at the moment, thanks. xx
hi stilltruckin well that all sounds pretty good then, and im happy to say i havnt relapsed this is an absolute first for me have always had theone or five kinda thing im really pleased with the way its going have been on a high have come down with a bump today though so wanted to have 10 today am really weary and had a particular horrid angina attack my spray did its work though, normally when that happens the first thing i reach for is a ciggie so struggled abit but didnt give in so alls good i guess this is all normal just have to stay strong .Thanks for explaining things too me praps you could explain what fev1 stands for,ido always ask questions it would seem my practise a little shy with their infom the last thing they informed me of was well Jane you are at stage 4 this means expect too suffer olot now with infections, having said that ido argue to myself the benefit of knowing the details as to percentages of lung function coz of my own imagination, when i had my heart attack the next year every little pain i had i thought i might be dropping dead!!!lol Janexx
Take a deep breath, then empty your lungs as hard and fast as you can - that's Forced Expiration.
FEV stands for Forced Expiratory Volume.
FEV1 is the volume of air expelled in the first second of a forced expiration.
Stage 4 is 'very severe', with FEV1 less than 30% of what would be normal for someone of your age, height and sex.
Well done longlungs you should be so proud of yourself keep up the good work xx
Hi Pamela how the devil are you today really really felt for you last night hope you dont feel quite so dark today?me on the other hand am super smashing at the mo so making the most of
it while it lasts we have some lovely weather here enjoying those rays before the chilly days arrive. Iam pleased all going very well at the mo,thankyou so much for taking the time pamela.Janexx
Well done!!
Be proud of yourself, and imagine being three days, three weeks and one day, three years without them.
Keep it up, be prepared for tough times, tough it out.... they don't last long.
Remember ciggies have never made anyone happy, removed a worry or solved a problem..... (the reverse in fact)
You may start coughing more in a few days, and if so its your lungs having a spring clean, and once over you will cough so much less than you have for years.
I started to feel better really quite soon after quitting.
Hope you do too.
Well done again
Keep us posted
Beth xx
