I had one a few years back after my repository failure with 32 days in ICU 5.5 months off work with sick notes. I was checked over and the report stated that I still had a lot of fluid on my lungs and other problems but recommended a phased return. Once I had the start date I was met by my manager and told that I would be getting a written warning for having so much time off! I did reply to this explaining that on my application forms they were made aware of my heart and lung conditions. "If you do take this action I will take it further under the Disability Discrimination Act." I got the Equal Opportunity Commission involved and they told me if they did proceed, they would back my case for prosecution. They withdrew the written warning after taking advice :) I was made redundant in the end :( that is another story of dirty tricks.

Hi Offcut thank you I have been off since Jan and up to 2 months ago it looked like I would never return to work, I get home visits from my area manager and recently mentioned there will have to be changes to my job description even a possible move to another site, this I will be sorted out at my back to work interview and what they don't yet my union rep will be there with a list of my own changes. Thanks again. Mattcass

Hi Mattcass. I had a back to work medical. It consisted of meeting with a 'nurse' and being asked what help, if any, I would need and if any adjustments needed to be made to the job to make it easier for me. It was pleasant and helpful, nothing like Offcut's experience.

Hi Toci, Thank You, I have a vision off me running up and down stairs or doing 20 press ups, Matt

If you can run up and down stairs and do 20 press ups you are fit for work - no matter what the medical entails! :p

Did I tell you I look after a lighthouse, Hee-Hee.matt

Hiya Mattcass I had to go through this when I was off sick at my last job. It was through ATOS which I presume yours is? Anyway my advice is to tell them everything that is wrong with you even if you think it is not relevant. Think of things that could help you return to your job ie extra breaks, extra leave etc. Your employer should be able to do 'reasonable adjustments' to help you. This is health and safety law. Employers avoid this at their peril. Good luck with it. If you need any more information pm me and I will do my best.
