I'm new to this and looking for some insight to help my mom.

My mom was diagnosed with restrictive lung disease 3 weeks ago, she's extremely obese and was recently in the hospital for blood clots in the lungs and legs.. I have been trying to help take care of her " which isn't easy " she's supposed to be on oxygen 24/7 but it's next to imposable to get her to wear it.. If I can't get her to wear it like she's supposed to how long do you think her life expectancy will be? It really worries me.

Hi teresa30. There is no time you can put on it. The oxygen is to keep the organs in good condition so maybe try and explain it to her ?

Hi Teresa30 - this is really a question that would be better answered by your gp and a visit from him may get your mother to wear the oxygen. If she does not like the nasal specs she could always try a mask.

The BLF help line is open tomorrow they can also give you advice.

I agree with the above Teresa30. I think a medical professional needs to take time and explain it all to her properly. Its not easy trying to help others who are ill and full credit to you. Remember to take time out for yourself though as well.

Hi Teresa.

If you can eventually get mum to take her oxygen and she takes it through the nose there is a little tip you need. The oxygen can make the nose sore so lubricate the nose with a water based lubricant. KY jelly is a well known one but any water based one will do. Good luck with persuading mum.

Thank you, she is starting to wear her oxygen more now :) I got her results from her breathing test they gave her, it says that her VC is at 73% which is in the mild stage so I think if I get her out walking and help her drop some of her weight it should help a lot more.. Thank you again Bobby :)
