can doctors prescribe nebullisers
Doctors can prescribe the drugs to use with nebulisers. You need to confirm your gp is willing to prescribe these and happy for you to use a nebuliser before you do anything else!
Inappropriate use of nebulisers can be dangerous!
Enjoy your weekend

My GP says I can only use a nebuliser at the surgery (which is 6 miles away with no transport!) She reckons they are not safe to use unsupervised.
Hi That Might Of Been The Case But I Use Mine At Home Unsupervised After My Initial Assessment At Lung Clinic .... But I Am Only On Hypertonic Saline
Home Use I Find Is Ok But When You Get Or Harbouring Infections They Should At Least Make Appointments To See You Esp If On Antibiotics
Distinct Lack Of Information When I Comes To Home Nebuliser Use Hypertonic Saline And Antibiotic And Inhaler Use
normally the chest people you see at the lung clinic will perscride a neb machine but they are now reluctant to give them out for many reason from misuse to not been cleaned and cared for correctly, as tubes and mask harbor bacteria if not cleaned. they also say using a spacer works just as well
Hi, my nebuliser was provided by my consultant at the chest clinic. Provided the mask is cleaned after use and the mask and airline changed regularly then there is no problem with using them at home, they are perfectly safe. Take care, Richard.
My respiratory nurse supplied mine but I only use it when I have an infection as I find a spacer works just as well. Keep smiling

my friend as 2 ,1 in the bedroom and 1 living room/gets the stuff for it of her gp
My original neb was loaned by my health centre; they could not give me one as they were not funded. As soon as I admitted to hospital the consultant said I needed one and the hospital provided one on permanent loan. They also service it and provide all the bits that go with it.
The rep nurses offered to show me how to use it before I left, but as I had been using one for three years they decided against it, but they were very careful to ensure I had everything I needed and checked that I knew exactly what I was doing.
You can buy a neb but have to get a GP to prescribe the drugs to use in them. Although saline is available at a price. Only your doctor can tell you if you can use one safely, it's not the machine that can harm you, it's if it will put your health at risk putting uncontrolled things in your lungs
I have my own neb at home but like others only use it with saline or sterile water which I get on prescription. I had to buy the neb so i bought the travel variety which works really well.
My consultant lent me a nebuliser from the hospital, but it was mains operated so I invested in a portable one.
I only live 5 minutes from A&E but it helps knowing I have the nebiliser in an emergency, especially on cold frosty nights! I use mine for Saline nebs too. But I now know when I need to go to A&E.
I think why some doctors don't like prescribing nebulisers for everyone is the fear that some people might over rely on them and not ask for the extra help that they may need.
I was in hospital and the doctor asked if I used an nebuliser and I said no he said would recommend me to and told me you can buy one and get medicine for them from your doctor so I bought on brand new on ebay for £30 and you get mask and all you need for it and so far it's kept me out of hospital
I bought one and my doctor gives me ventalin and salin to put into it. I havery copd and have had pneumonia twice in 6 months so that is maybe why
I haven't asked for one but am strongly thinking about it
