I believe there is a back log at the moment with all the new changes being implemented. I am sure someone here can help you better. Good luck with your claim anyway and welcome to the site. :)

Scrobbity is probably right, but if you do get knocked back appeal as most of the appeals get allowed, & i,m sure your son cannot do many things his friends can, & that is what they should be looking at! Welcome to the site

Hi georgesmummy, and welcome ;) I'm aware there is, as scrobbitty remarked, a backlog with dla claims. I do hope you are successful :)

Hi Georgesmummy

The DWP does have a backlog of claims to deal with. What I was wondering is anyone helping you with the claim? Your local council's Welfare Rights department can take over and manage your claim for you. It might pay you to give them a quick ring tomorrow. Good luck with your claim

hi, heeeello and welcome, unfortunately it can take upto 16weeks on the first application while they contact, doctors, specialists etc. good luck with the claim, welfare rights are the people to talk to.

Hi there Georgesmummy! I made an application for my son who is four & a half yrs of age, it might be good news for you but don't want to put your hopes up! But they was pretty quick at letting me know my son isn't entitled for DLA even though he has the blue inhaler the brown inhaler & Singulair granules to take at night every night & even though he's had atleast 2 serious asthma attacks & a third where he was developing an asthma attack & had a very low temprature & pulse or heart rate, plus he appeared to have had an apnoea attack, where there was no sound of breathing or movement & was taken to hospital,it made no difference to his application for DLA, I must say I wasn't surprised almost every thing is being cut out these days thanks to Cameron & his leaders, so not fair, I can apply again when he turns five! i hope it turns out well for you even though it didn't for my Son, Good luck!

I forgot to mention that when I sent the DLA application form around the end of February or the begining of March it was atleast 3 to 4 weeks later that they sent me a letter telling me he's not entitled If I remember rightly it's because he's not physically disabled I know that but what's that got to do with being able bodied or not, & it seams to me that something isn't right some where along the line, the hospital has told me twice they don't like to call it asthma & our GP says he definatly has asthma & has all three medications two of which he has to have always! knowing the hospital they proberly don't have him down as asthmatic, it doesn't make sense & I'm very frustrated, why all the medicine if he doesn't have asthma!?Feel like I'm being fobbed off! Does anyone else feel the same I'm sure I'm not alone?

Hi kaz67 I feel for you so much my son is 13 ,he had his first asthma "attack" at 6thmths when blue etc .. seem to have them every winter so they said it was season asthma, when he was five my gp said it was seasonly asthma so from 5 yrs till he was about 10 he was in out of drs and a&e been monakluscast tablet since he was 5 !then after 1 bad attack he was sent to see a peads consultane at our local hospital and the doctor just happened to be from g.o.s.h she couldn't understand why he hadn't been referred before so she said she would write to prof bush at the royal brompton about my son 3 weeks later got a letter thought for the appointment 2 weeks after and we have been going there for the last 2 half years and they r great

Hi there Georgeamummy! thank you for your reply!I'm sorry to hear that you have also have not had an easy time, it is a constant worry & some times I don't go to sleep untill the early hours of the morning like 3 & 4 am sometimes later which isn't good I know, I've been looking online for a cessation of breathing monitor to monitor his breathing & alert me in case of emergency so I can sleep at night otherwise I'l be no good for my son & other family members!had ordered a cessation of breathing monitor online that said was for all ages especially for people with epilepsy or respiratory conditions but when it was delivered to us it wasn't as it claimed to be it was instead the BM-02 Nanny baby breathing monitor that has a product life time of only two years if used correctly according to the manufacturer which is not helpful as we need something that will last for years! We have a finger oxymeter with alarm that monitors the oxygen levels & heart rate but it's not like it can be used all through out the night & the alarm isn't loud enough to wake anyone when sleeping unless in the same room,so we have almost reached a dead end except that I found another site online disability world where they can help with various monitors and have spoken to someone today who said they will email me the info when he's found a suitable monitor I am awaiting feedback from this person so fingers crossed! And don't worry about the reason you decided to make the claim because I wasn't going to bother but then thought why not give it a go I could perhaps use the money towards a monitor or one day if there is another emergency where my son needs to be taken to hospital but cant wait for an ambulance if they take time I'd catch a cab! But luckily the hospital is hardly far from where we live about six short bus stops away, & three times that he went to hospital by ambulance the ambulance got to us in less than ten minutes they was really fast I was surprised.I also thought that after being sent to hospital with a acute to sever asthma attack that he would be refured to a asthma nurse or consultant that deals with respiratory illnesses, I'm going to make an appointment with our local welfare adviser & hope she or he can help with the DLA & anything else related to our children's condition,& I wish you all the best with the outcome of the above & hope life improves for yourselves your son & your self!& thanks again!xx
