Was It Worth Appling for DLA.

Hi All, After reading so many times about how strict the DWP and so many claims being refused is it worth me claiming as my CSP and SSP has run out and I have to apply for ESP, Besides me having Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis along with Rheumatoid Arthritis I only applied when my GP and Consultants advised me to as it could be a while before my transplant and the recovery period could be just as long, even the CAB said I might get the lower rate, But he said that they refuse you intentionally hoping that you wont appeal then they might give you the lower at the second attempt hoping you will be happy with that. What do you think should I just forget if I get refused, mattcass

Hi

If you have mobility and or care needs, you should make a claim .

As from the forthcoming Monday it will be PIP?

Which is more complex and needs more help from a third party, CAB ect.

Yes mattcass, if you are severe enough for a transplant then you are severe enough for DLA. Don't give up. I only got the lower element care and I know full well people far more able than me are getting the full rate (my sister who, despite a degree and numerous other qualifications and has spent her life either training for something else or claiming benefits, has a fused hip and gets EVERYTHING). If you are refused, appeal.

Go for it Mattcass, you may be the lucky one.

Hi Mattcass

I would go for it and if you do get refused appeal, they can only refuse you again but they might award it to you, so I say its worth the effort especially as your doctors have advise you to and about your long recovery process after the transplant, make sure you mention this.

I am wishing you every success for DLA and good results for your transplant.

Please apply for it. You are more than entitled to receive it. Do not let there tactics put you off something thats rightly yours as this is what they want you to do. Please go for it and I wish you all the best Julie xxx

Yes, Yes, Yes, keep at it and never, ever give in, I am sure these people hope you will get fed up and stop applying for the benefits you are entitled to.

Last year I applied, as my husbands carer, for Attendance Allowance, I was turned down, again and again, I appealed again and again, I wrote in big red letters at the top of the page 'I WILL KEEP APPLYING FOR ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE UNTIL THE DAY I DIE, I wrote to my local MP and she in turn wrote to them sending me a copy of the letter, within a few days I got a 'phone call from the benefits office asking me questions about my husbands illness and two days later I received a letter stating he had been awarded the higher rate of Attendance Allowance.

The benefits people wrote to my local MP and stated in their letter, 'the reason we did not award this gentleman AA was because they didn't tell us this and didn't tell us that' which was a total lie as I had copies of the forms I had filled in.

So be very careful, put everything down thread through the needle even if it means using other sheets of paper, write it down as if it was happening there and then and if you can, print a copy of your form you send in, because once you send it in you have no proof of what you have written down.

Do not under any circumstances let them get away with not giving you the benefits you are entitled to.

Good luck and never, ever give in.

I just recently applied and got DLA and realise now that I should have applied at least several months ago... I too was nervous then was encouraged by another blogger here and did it... worth a go, eh :) wish you well with it. x
