i av emphysema snce the last 3 rs,someone told me it is terminal is this true?
Hi son38
Welcome to the forum.
COPD is not considered to be a terminal condition - it is though a chronic condition - this means it is long term, it is also a slowly progressive condition which can get worse over time.
Terminal usually means a disease or illness is at an advanaced stage, in relation to welfare benefits it usually means a person could be expected to pass away within 6 months.
You can see further information on COPD by clicking on the link below:

We also have an excellent COPD pack we can send out to you - give us a call on 03000 030 555 and we can send this out to you - we can also offer advice, information and support on this number.
You can also e mail us at helpline@blf.org.uk
Cheers

Some people live for a very long time with emphysema, but it can shorten a person's life, as can many things though.
Take care, I hope your COPD is mild.

Some users of this site have had emphysema for 20 or more years and they are inpretty good nick. I myself was diagnosed 11 years ago so I wouldn't start to panic yet if I were you.
Bobby
Life itself is terminal... How long you've got is very much up to you, look after yourself and you'll last longer.
Well said Gordon57
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with severe emphysema.and I am now on a battle to get myself fitter.as I felt I was getting progressively worse through not doing much excercise
I do 15- 20 miles per day on my excercise bike now.and I am beginning to feel the benefits.
Don't let it get you down
Take care.

My dad also suffered from it he survived for 29 years with it and died as a result of heart failure. He made sure he kept himself active with his allotment and travelled which helped a lot. He also gave up smoking straight away, and ate healthily too Take care Julie x x
Hello son38. Good advice from everyone. In short:
1. No smoking
2. Exercise
3. Healthy eating and healthy weight.
4. Avoid getting infections as much as possible.
These will make a huge difference to the progression of it.

What positive replies x This has cheered me up
Ask your GP about going on a PR course as well, I found it to be very beneficial to my breathing with the exercises, they also have talks on how to manage COPD and medications, exellent advice, keep well.
Best wishes Ju
