Does anyone else with bronchiectasis ... - Lung Conditions C...
Does anyone else with bronchiectasis suffer pseudomonas and if so how do you cope with it?
sorry to sound ignorant could you tell me what pseudomonas are please?
Its a ghastly virus which colonises the lung and makes you very unwell, regularly, and is virtually anti biotic resistant. If you had it you'd know so thank your lucky stars you haven't.
Thank you for letting me know It sounds terrible I hope you are well at the moment and that they find a suitable a b for it soon best wishes Julie
Sorry to hear you have pseudo. I too have bronchiectasis, pseudo, fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and aspergillus.
I try not to think too much about what is happening in my lungs. I do what is advised i.e chest clearance etc, take my pills. Nebulise the colomycin which is supposed to keep the pseudo at bay, take abs three times a week and all the other meds prescribed. Keep positive that's my motto! x M
I agree totally and refuse to be ground down but occasionally it all gets a bit much. Thanks for your reply - I am not alone now.
Hi there my husband also has bronchiectasis and pseudo, he has just been tested and been given a nebuliser to take colomycin, has this helped you, he is very poorly at the moment keeps feeling sick and has no appetite at all food, I have too pick up the drugs for the nebuliser tomorrow, so was just wondering if this has helped you. Thanks
Pseudomonas is not a virus it is a bacterium.I have been colonised with it for over 10 years. It can be treated with oral antibiotics. The problem is that it has a habit of becoming resistant to oral medication and this has happened in my case. I now nebulise colistin two times a day to help keep it down to levels that allow me to function relatively normally. However from time to time it rears its ugly head and intra venous antibiotics are required.
Furmeyer, I have the same as you and like Mocarey and Pengu, colomycin keeps the pseudomonas at bay nearly all the time. It has done for 7yrs, in all that time I've only had two hospital stays for IV antibiotics. I also take azithromycin 3 times a week.

I have Bronchiectasis, COPD and Asthma along with the dreaded Pseudomas, as well as being HI resistant - I've recently had a stay in hospital on IV's, let out under the care of our wonderful ART (Active Response Team) nurses - 100% brilliant. All I hope is they got the little blighter this time Pseudo can be a b****r to get rid of totally, so hopefully they've sent mine to sleep for a while anyway.
Good luck and keep up with your airway clearance.

I would just like to say a big thanky you to all who replied - so good to know we are not alone, dont you think?
GLAD TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE REPLIED TO YOU,IT MUST BE QUITE FRIGHTENING TO BE TOLD YOU HAVE BRONCHIECTASIS AND THEN HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT INFECTIONS OCCURING.
PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP ALL OF YOU,MAKE SURE YOU USE YOUR PUMPS ETC.WITHOUT FAIL DAILY AND ALWAYS TAKE FULL COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS.
I AM HAPPY TO SAY I'M STILL HERE ENJOYING LIFE REASONABLY WELL AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED 66YRS AGO AT THE AGE OF 1YR OLD.
PSEUDOMAS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST TO CLEAR AND PROBABLY I CARRY A LOW LEVEL OF IT IN MY LUNGS EVERYDAY.I HAVE GOT RID OF IT A FEW TIMES,THE LAST WAS 4YRS AGO BY THE LOCAL ART TEAM WHO CAME 3 TIMES A DAY TO MY HOME SAVING ME HAVING TO GO INTO HOSPITAL.
I COME ACROSS A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO GET TOLD THEY HAVE THIS ILLNESS LATER ON IN LIFE AND ARE TERRIEFED,SO I THOUGHT I'D TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TELL YOU ABOUT ME AND AS LONG AS YOU LOOK AFTER YOURSELF WELL AND DON'T LEAVE IT TO LATE TOGET ON ANTIBIOTICS LIFE CAN BE GOOD.
