Smoking and Stairs…

“I’ve got a friend who’s been smoking for years.

He gets really out of breath climbing up the steps to his flat…..

So I told him ‘Just ask them to put in a ramp instead….

You are on the ground floor, after all”…

Ha ha! I don't know about anyone else but I find stairs/steps easier than an incline. I don't if it's psychological, but with stairs you can do one at a time, seeing am incline ahead is far more off putting to me? Libby

I'm like Libby. I'd much rather walk up the stairs than walk up a long ramp - of course a lift or escalator is even better, but that would be lazy!

I don't like slopes. They frighten me.Not keen on steps either.

KOTC

I always have to take my husband to pulmonary rehab as he refuses to go on his own and wants me to go with him for the talk afterwards.

Whilst we were there the patients were asked by the pulmonary nurse if anyone still smoked, and a few hands went up. They were asked if they had tried to stop smoking and no hands went up.

I am at a loss for words that these people are being helped by the NHS to get their breathing and exercise levels improved but they are not prepared to help themselves by giving up smoking, there are people on the waiting list who do not smoke who cannot attend because the classes are full with a few people who still smoke.

I think that there should be a ruling that if you are not prepared to try and give up smoking then your place goes to people who are trying to give up or do not smoke at all.

It is like someone having a liver transplant because they are drinkers, they will not be given a new liver if they still drink.

Some people on here will be really angry with me, but there is a saying that God helps them that helps themselves and so it should be. If my husband still smoked there is no way I would be helping him as I would not give what is left of my life to help someone who is selfish enough not to give a damn about himself.
