I'm 42 and my lung age is 86. It's just a number. You have improved and that's the main thing. It's all we can do - trying to keep our bodies in as good a condition as possible. You sound like you are doug well at this.

Hi grandadbrian

As marie says it's just a number. I am 70 and my lung age is 120. Looks like you have got a few years in you yet. Best of luck. Bob

Also : D without the space.

If you hover your mouse over a smiley it shows, in a little box, what the signs are on your keyboard are to make it.

:D

Wow, I didn't know they did lung age tests!

How can they do that, I mean where did they find the 120 or 160 year olds to compare lungs with and be able to say that someone's lungs are that age?

Come to think of it, our weighing scales at home give fitness ages, but they seem to think everyone is 50. I'll be happy with that once I'm 51 I suppose :-)

But seriously, I think it's sort of mean and frightening to tell people their lungs are supposedly aged 100 or something.

I agree with you there koala, they did not mention a lung age to me. Well not yet, and I don't think I would like it if they did. About to start PR in 3 weeks so hopefully I will be healthier than I am today. Don't smoke and eat healthy, avoid pollutants and exercise. What good does an age number do if you are following those rules. :)

It's just a random computer generated age that is part of the print out when the test is done. My specialist ignores it as he says it doesn't mean anything, the FEV numbers are what they look at, and even those don't fully reflect how well or ill we are as so any other factors are involved.

Providing all of these statistics to us seems to vary across the country.

Neither the COPD clinic nor my GP have ever given me any of the 'scores' oe values that you see so regularly bandied about on this forum.

Still, I suppose what you don't know about, you can't worry about !
