so many of us struggle with this. Is it taken seriously by clinicians? I don't know. I asked a similar question on here a couple of weeks ago and people very helpfully answered with different methods they had used but I had already tried all of them but still it persisted. I had said to GPs I have seen over a couple of years that I felt that I had a sub clinical infection at the back of my nose and behind my ear drum that just lurks, waiting for the opportunity to pop up again. My named GP has started to give me a specimen bottle and form so I can send in a sample when I start to feel that I'm struggling with the start of a possible chest infection. It turns out that since I became unwell at beginning of December, I've had the same persistent bacteria lurking making me feel awful and causing asthma flare up. At last I feel that there is something concrete for clinicians to see that I have been feeling every winter for I don't know how long and it has been getting progressively worse year on year. I have been prescribed some specific antibiotics for it now and though I'm only on day two, was able to sleep last night. I hope you get some help for this. I think that you have to be persistent though and if you feel that you are being fobbed off, say so, but calmly. It's hard to advocate for yourself when you're feeling rough but I don't know another way. Good luck.
Morning can i ask which antibiotic were you prescribed as I have a similar issue had cefalexin and Doxycycline but still same.
Hi. I have been on doxycycline on and off since Christmas. I sent of a sample in February and continued the doxycycline but still breathless and struggling so GP asked for another. Same bacteria still present so I could have continued with doxycycline or another antibiotic that the bacteria is sensitive to. I decided to try a different one and am now on courses of co-trimazole. Initially it was for 5 days but I have another 5 days because it's so stubborn. The reason GP put me on it was not for the mucus in my throat and ear though, but because of the upper respiratory tract infection that (I think) started as ear ache and blocked sinuses coupled with catching a cold. All that mucus is a good place for bacteria to flourish I expect. Antibiotics are not always the answer to throat mucus though.
Drink plenty of clear fluids to help thin it.have u tried a daily antihistamine?I use a steroid nose spray, antihistamines.and sterrimar natural Seasalt spray - u use it into nose + sinuses. Block nostrils with a tissue so it doesn't run out, then blow one nostril at a time.whn bad I use before sleep so there's less to run down throat.u can use up to 6x day.
I was just reading yr previous post re stress incontin.coughing places huge strain on pelvic floor ((. I had an operation to repair bladder prolapse years ago - best thing I did.no problems since. Also see u cough a lot at times - ru using yr salbutamol enough x
apologies. I made a spelling error. The correct name of the antibiotic I am on is co-trimoxazole
have you been prescribed Carbocisteine capsules.?? They help immensely but, are a long term solution.
Just check that it is not acid reflux as I was coughing all the time at night and eventually found to have this. Lansoprazole is a game changer for me.
