Health Advice Update

A lot of the information I have worked out for myself over the years but for my family, seeing it written down by a respected charity, has made them realise that my struggles to breathe are real, and not due to lack of effort and bad luck. It has made my life less lonely. 23 years ago the NHS told me I had Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis, each time I have had a chest infection, the surgery tells me to be more careful. I have had Covid three times, have multiple long term side effects and the only way I can get out the house is if I rest up the day before and rest up the day after. However after finding your breath test online and telling the guard dog at the surgery’s reception that I needed to see a doctor, I wasn’t told to ring in the morning for an appointment (the time slot is so small and I am often too ill to speak early in the morning). Instead I was given an appointment with the asthma nurse within 90 minutes. Had a lung function test within 7 days and prescribed Trimbow for COPD with overlapping asthma within an hour of completing the tests. My now adult children would have had a childhood not spent growing up in NHS waiting rooms while another nurse/doctor told me I was prone to chest infections. I am hoping now that the surgery will help me get my Covid vaccine. So a huge thank you to everyone at ALUK for making me visible and enabling me to access the support I should have had decades ago. The last two weeks have been a marvel in my ability to breathe and regain my life.
