The advice on being active can backfire if one has sensitivity to cold air, hot air, polluted air, odors, perfumes, people smoking -- all of these sensitivities get amplified with exertion, and, if the "being active" part is done not at home, one is in danger of being stranded while having an asthma attack. It's not trivial to be active while having asthma. There are ways to control the air one breathes while being active, but doctors rarely know them, and can rarely provide specific advice, other than "keep your rescue inhaler nearby".
