fibre glass

Has anyone had really bad issues with fibre glass affecting them, even the smallest amount causing deep lung irritation and lung infections?

This seems to be a whole thing that I have to be weary of and is very tiring.

Fibreglass is really smelly nasty stuff and does affect the lungs. You should at least be wearing a mask if you are working with it. Take care. Brian

If it's fibreglass loft insulation you need a decent face mask if possible, it's horrible stuff even for those without dodgy lungs, if it's grp it's not as bad but would probably be with a mask to be safe.

Please wear a proper respirator and eye protection and avoid it by all means. Another bad thing about it is that it's not soluble (like asbestos) and once it's lodged in the lungs it's there to stay.

Of note, HEPA filters are made of fiberglass. I suppose, manufacturers are very confident that the fibers do not get shed. I always put a basic coarse melt-blown filter downstream from a HEPA and a charcoal filter, just in case (glue used to make HEPA filters sometimes smells).
