Feel like I can't get all my air out

Hi all, I think sometimes I confuse being short of breath with not being able to exhale fully. When I had a Spiro last year it had early signs of obstruction in my airways aswell as asthma. So they said it could be early signs of COPD Is there anything I can do to improve these symptoms? I know stoping smoking will help and I have the doctors tomorrow to discuss that as I'm really struggling with it. But is there anything else I can do or different medication. I'm on symbicort and spiriva but I'm not consistent with the spiriva as I feel it makes me worse to be honest.

Hi - I know it is obvious, smoking will damage your health, damaged mine. I don't know what you can do, except make sure you keep weight in check and keep away from lit candles or any pollutant.

Medication wise I have reliever salbutamol (BLUE) atrovent (Green) which acts with me like a releiver.

Fostair - I take morning and night,.

So I found for COPD the Green spray helped a lot - Fostair also has a steroid and not a reliever,works in background.

I have COPD but that causes me less trouble than asthma at the moment, I have dyspnea and in all honestly I find it confusing,

Sorry can't be more help.ask your DR would Atrovent help you, I have found it better than salbutamol .

Good luck and if you smoke, stopping is the best treatment.

Good morning Ern007. There is a stop smoking support group on this forum for support if you click on the 9 dots at the top. You should see the group page. Hope you can get some help with your other problem. I find its better seeing a Respiratory nurse who is dealing with patients with breathing problems every day. Take care. Brian

I was given spiriva when diagnosed with Copd in early 2011 I already had asthma. Its not for everyone but honestly I think this medication has saved my life. I take it before bed. They wanted me to change recently as I had covid in sept and breathlessness and cough been persistent since very exhausting. I'm thinking of trying a three in one inhaler but have said if I want my miracle inhaler back would they agree. They agreed. Give spiriva a shot. I have 2 cigarettes a day have stopped several times but need the 2 haven't had any since sept but still class myself as a smoker. I hope you get sorted. My other inhaler is seretide tried fostair bad side effects xx

Not being able to exhale is one of symptoms in my asthma, and I do not have COPD. It feels like having a "bubble" in my lungs. I also get tightness in my chest, feeling of breathing through a straw, and coughing. When all these four come at once, I know it's bad news. When they come by themselves, I know it will go away if I take a puff of albutelor, or don an FFP2 mask.

I sometimes feel frustrated with smokers: I have never smoked in my life and used to run marathons, and I now have asthma, whereas I know plenty of smokers who cannot run, and yet they do not have asthma :).

Hi, a combo of Spiriva and Fostair has worked well for me. So much so I don’t need Spiriva anymore and am on a lower dose of Fostair. I have eosinophilic asthma. Good luck!

Perhaps get a review of your inhalers. I had been on Symbicort for ages and when I had a period of recurrent chest infections I didn't feel it helped the wheeze I consistently had.I am now on Fostair and it is much better

I don't want to be rude but you have already stated the obvious.... starting your spiriva regularly and stopping smoking being the two, I think you know you need to do

Unfortunately with COPD ... Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease from what I understand its about slowing the progression and stopping further damage

So I seen my asthma nurse today and she has changed me to trimbow which is a 3 in 1 inhaler and is getting me support to stop smoking
