Log history of repeated chest infections that keep coming back.Cough that lasts forever. Just started to have acid reflux not helped by having garlic and onion!I have recently started coughing when eating which then sends me into a mega coughing episode

Good morning, I suffer from frequent upper respiratory infections where it causes much inflammation and wheeze, I have one at present, went the doctors on Monday again and now trying a second antibiotic as well as Azithromycin which I take Mon, Weds & Fri If I don’t address the infection it ends up in my lungs and always resus & a week in hospital My O2 sats are fine but occasionally my airway blocks and I need a few good coughs to clear the mucus & I really can speak a sentence without having a coughing episode I can taste when an infection is starting which mucus & wheeze following shortly after. Mine is definitely infection driven & not caused by stress or reflux Lungs are currently very clear

Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine prior to my diagnosis of asthma.

I suggest you see your gp and ask if it could be GERD ? It can cause a cough if the stomach acid irritates the oesophagus. Mine is caused by a hiatus hernia.

You could also speak to your local pharmacist and see if they can recommend something to help with the reflux such as eomeprazole tablets or Gaviscon Advanced which in turn should help with your cough.

That's my thinking too. I already take Lansoprazole but have it suggested it needs to be Omeprazole (took that a while back)It's the lack of sleep atm

I was struggling with reflux and indigestion so took over the counter nexium and when I saw the GP with specialist interest in asthma she decided to keep me on it long term as my peak flow was a little more stable on it. She also explained that reflux can make asthma worse but also the bronchodilators can increase reflux as can coughing. So it can be a vicious circle. I am still poorly controlled but I am improved and I am definitely more comfortable, whilst I wait my respiratory review.

I've had acid reflux for many years and went onto omeprazole that stopped my mild asthma completely. So much so that I put it down acid reflux and put ut mostly out of my mind. Years later though my lung function tests seem not good but still active. See my newbie post yesterday.

Went to see GP today. Utter waste of time...as I'm under a hospital consultant.Havent actually seen him F2F and when I did speak to him I wasn't as unstable as I am now.Kept asking me what to do...I am a nurse but come on I am the patient!

My symptoms like my productive hacking cough,insomnia,acid reflux are all done to the medications I've been taking???!!

Oh he did change my Lansoprazole to Omeprazole...but only because I asked him to

Tried to explain its affecting my QOL but no response.

So I will continue to self heal and fingers crossed I get a cancellation to see my Consultant before June
