I went to see the nurse at the GP today for a spirometer test

I have been very breathless at times really trying to suck air in some days other days fine , she mentioned that as my echo was ok my ct test on the lungs ok that I might have acid reflux with acid entering my lungs

About 7/8 years ago I had the normal acid reflux acid taste sharp chest pain I get none of that now just breathless

As anyone had this where they are really breathless with acid reflux but dont have the normal symptoms

Good question, some of my asthma attacks are related to eating heavy meals. So I think I have an element of Gerd, but without the normal symptoms.

Being more careful of what I eat has helped

yes. There is a thing called silent reflux. As I understand it it’s what happens when the acid from the stomach has been irritating the throat for a while and the normal signals stop being noticed. The treatment is a change of food stuffs, smaller portions, eating the main meal of the day earlier and no evening snacks. Raising your bed head by a few inches helps and the GP can prescribe medication to reduce the amount of acid produced. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

thank you

I can't help but just thought I'd share. I've got damaged vocal cords and on Monday I had a camera procedure done at the hospital (camera up the nose and into my throat to see the vocal cords), he said he could see signs of reflux - including, and especially when the camera made me gag and cough. I also have no symptoms of reflux but he wants me to start taking Gaviscon Advance to see if it helps. Helps what, I'm not sure - as I say, I've got no symptoms of reflux so how will I know if it's helping 🤷‍♀️

i have had problems waking in the night with a sudden cough brought on by tickling and feeling of lungs being “flattened “

Also sore throat/tongue on and off which seemed to coincide with certain foods so I put it down to food sensitivity.

My GP suggested that it could be silent reflux rather than asthma/allergy related and gave me omezaprole for a month. That really helped me.

Having read up on the condition I think he was spot on so I am being more careful with what and when I eat and use gaviscon occasionally to help. Relieved it wasn’t my asthma worsening!

Here’s a bit of information

Perhaps try eating smaller meals too. Anxiety is a trigger for breathing probs too.controlled breathing techniques and meditation help
