Priority PCR test

After being given this back in November 21 I finally had to use it last night. I been away for the weekend and found out my husband was positive on Saturday. I got home yesterday and did a lateral flow test which came up immediately as positive. Then within half an hour the cornavirus symptoms started sore throat, cough, headache and fatigue. My peak dropped a little too but now back up to normal.

I got out the PCR test registered it and then took this morning. I sent it away via a Priority Post box and now wait for the test results.

I also had a text from my doctors (last week) saying I maybe able to order a oxymeter. So I have applied for that too,

Advice and tips on how to treat it and look after myself.

Sorry to hear you have tested positive. I personally found the initial infection was not too horrendous. Very similar to a very heavy cold/mild flu. My peak flow dropped a little bit my chest was not affected as I thought it would be. My sinuses were really painful- a regular problem for me- so I did lots of nasal douching. I took paracetamol regularly and the best advice is to rest - really rest - as much as possible. Try to eat well and drink regularly.

Unfortunately after my initial symptoms subsided, I realised that I had other symptoms that were not getting better and now have long covid. Keep an eye out for ongoing symptoms and take care of yourself.

Similar experience for me. The covid itself was a very mild illness for me but weeks later I had ongoing breathlessness and fatigue. It’s slowly getting better as I’m trying to build up my general fitness, but taking it slowly.

Best advice is just good self care and knowing you limits and when to ask for help when you need to. Plenty of hot drinks.

I now have had my PCR test results back via test. Now I waiting to be contacted by the NHS for the treatment (antivirals). My peak flow is dropping to 80% so now doing regular Ventolin every 4 hours.

Did you manage to get the antivirals? I hope you did. I was rejected at triage as I fell 3 months outside the steroid use limit and they didn’t take in to consideration risk from co-morbidities.

Nope wasnt able to access the antivirals. I applied to a trial (via text invite) yesterday but was rejected because they had reach their limit. Its day 4. However I have just had a delivery of an oxymeter from my local health center. I am now on a virual cornavirus ward.

I have to do a oxymeter reading 8am and 3pm during the day. Just done it and it was 100% so thats very good.

I going to see how I go. However if I still really rough and ventolin every four hours I will chase it.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. I got on the trial but was allocated standard care. So basically plough on. Was offered the oximetry but was having such a bad day that I didn’t answer the call and I’m really glad I didn’t as they left a message saying if I wanted it to call them back and I could go pick it up at a particular place. I genuinely would have told them where to shove it as I live alone and was really unwell and super upset at not being offered treatment and Bojo had just made some outrageous covid step down on the same day so also super peeved and hating the world. I had one I got off the internet so I saved myself a job of having to submit readings but could keep an eye on myself.

Straight away get yourself sinus rinse. I was a few days in before it started getting mucky in my nose and it is the stand alone thing I wish people would have told me to get. Also get sinutab max incase you do get sinus pain. Mine was horrific and it took me 24hrs of tolerating the pain with not as good meds before I realised I could get it on Amazon.

Get really soft tissues too and something to coat around your nose, like Vaseline. (I have had so much dry skin and broken skin around my nose).

I found the asthma side only problematic for about 2days and needed ventolin very frequently but my gosh did it work waaaaaay quicker and better than I was used to and after taking I would feel like it hadn’t been an issue at all. Peak flows would also jump right up again too.

Learn to move slow. Like a snail. Go for a walk to the street corner and back twice a day- I think doing this is actually what kept me out of hospital and it is thanks to my dog. Also reduced risk of clots. Wear a mask when out as it will “warm the air” so reduces the coughing fits.

Only have super small meals. Coughing fits mean strong potential for vomiting and boy was that part crap.

Try not to cry too much coz that makes the snot way worse. If you need a distraction from upset then put something ice cold on your forehead.

The days you are able to shower, sit in the bath for it as standing will make you more SOB.

Leave your house get a mess, don’t force yourself to do housework, it isn’t important. I had to force myself to do a tidy and clean on week 4 because I’m in rented accommodation and the landlord is selling. The next day I wasn’t able to stand due to the sheer intensity of the dizziness. So take it super easy.

And lastly, when you are finished isolating, that first drive thru McDonalds will be the best tasting food you will ever have 🤣🤣

I tested positive for COVID 3 weeks ago.

Initial symptoms were runny nose, burning throat and peak flow dropping by 15-20%, lasting couple of days.

Now I am short of breath with chest pain 3 weeks later.

Since the new year, I have been under investigation for asthma which this week I had borderline normal spirometry with no improvement in reversibility. Also l, I am mid 2-week peak flow diary without asthma medication which highest variation has been 9%.

GP isn't sure if I have asthma or if COVID has affected my lungs shortness of breath. I did do my lung function tests 21 days after testing positive and chest hurt......still feeling the COVID effects.

sorry to hear you are suffering still. I pray that you are able to access the treatment you need to sort out your chest. In the name of Jesus Amen

day 5 and sleep or lack of it wasn't good. Peak flow still at 80% and not surprisingly still tired. However oxygen levels are perfect so that's good.

Last day I could have further treatment and don't know what to do.

Better the cough has seem to have gone. Peak flow is the same but chest isn't sore. Still very tired and lost my sense of taste today. The once a day phone call from the virtual ward (physiotherapist yesterday). She said I needed two negative test today and tomorrow to end my isolation on Sunday. Positive again today so will have to extend my isolation period.
