Hi could anyone help me understand how to use this. I have only used once so far but still don’t know if I’m using it correctly and better finding out so I’m not wasting medicine. So what I done the first time is remove one the nasules from the packet and shakes it about but instructions say flick which I don’t understand and then I blow my nose. Twisted and opened lid. I lie in bed but over edge and my mother squeezed 5 drops into each nostril. Should I let the nasule or dropper touch my nostril or not and t says it you squeeze the sides till they meet is quicker and easier then release and do other nostril and keep head over edge of bed for a minute after or do I lay sideways For 30 secs then change to other side and it is it better to squeeze 5 drops in each nostril or squeeze until you both sides of tube meet as it says then this willlbe around 6 drops but I have no clue or what way to put it into nose as drops or half at ocne in each nostril

I could only find an explanation video in German, but it was enough to get an idea about first shaking the ampule, then a quick flick to settle the contents (just flick your finger against it). Blow your nose gently, then lying down with your head back, pop half the contents in one nostril then the other half in the other nostril and leave for 2 minutes (about 6 drops in each nostril). Doesn't matter if you make contact with the ampule as it isn't used again. After 2 minutes lie on your side for 90 seconds then lie on your other side for 90 seconds then sit up and lean forward so your head is downward and wait 90 seconds. The aim is to allow the drops to make contact with all your nasal cavity. You can insert the tip of the ampule into the nostril but remember that you still have to be able to squeeze it to deliver the drops.

It's a faff but if you have nasal polyps, it will take consistent, daily treatment. Don't give up as polyps take time to shrink.

Have you been diagnosed with aspirin sensitivity?

I get my mother to put 4/5 drops in each nostril then I lie with head over edge of bed for a minute then sideways on bed for money minute and then the other and that’s it. But I couldn’t find videos online and was worried I was getting the medicine where it needed to be as it is not an easy medication to take if you have never been prescribed it before

Btw do I have to lie on bed with head over edge or can I lie flat on bed with head looking focusing on the wall behind me not the ceiling as I read that online to focus on wall behind you. I have a single bed and find it hard to put my head over edge of bed plus it’s also harder for me too because of the other medications I take.

Hi Jac902. Head back is sufficient, as far as comfortable seeing as you have to hold the pose for a couple of minutes.

So sorry but don’t understand what you meant in reply. Did u mean that lying flat in bed with head as far back as possible is still okay then putting it over the edge as I find it so hard to do that position.

I meant, lie on bed as you would for bed, but without pillows. Then try and arch your neck so your head is tilted, jaw up towards the ceiling. You can use a rolled up towel to give your neck support. The aim is to ensure the drops stay in the nasal cavity for as long as possible.

And here is a short video that explains the side position. Unfortunately, most vids are about nasal sprays, which is a different method. I hope this helps - it has a good description of the head position for when you move onto your side (ignore the nasal drops bit as you've already taken them when you were lying on your back.)://youtu.be/pCVg2BpJp9U

Hi, I've used these a couple of times. When it says "flick" i just ping against the ampule as I would ping a crumb off my shoulder (don't ask how it may have got there). I then lie on the bed with my head back. I then drop 3 drops into one nostril. If you squeeze too hard it'll squirt, so gently does it. when the 3 drops are in, I then turn my head first one way, count to 15, then turn the other way for 15. I feel this helps to spread the liquid around and not leaving the area when you sit up. I then turn my head the other way and do the same. Once this is done I lie for a short while... basically breathing deeply (ish) to make sure it doesn't drip. It's a nuisance but worth it. A bit long winded for a routine that takes about a minute. I've been given Betnesol drops this time, which I take the same way.

Good luck!

I generally lie with a pillow under my shoulders. Just enough to lift me up and my head slightly back. You'll find your comfy position with a bit of trial & error. Good luck!
