Allergic asthma

I have results back from my bloods and have elevated Ige of 164 but they have done a rast test and identified that I’m positive to cats and dogs, grass and tree pollen (which I already knew as I have terrible hayfever) and house dust mites.

I have a pet cat and a dog.

I already knew that I am allergic to some pets as I get allergic symptoms to some specific cats and dogs. But now I’m thinking ah no I don’t want to have to give up my pets.

What did people use to help manage allergies to their own pets.

It also means another referral as the respiratory clinic have maxed out their treatment options and having multiple flare ups requiring oral steroids. Not sure how long the waiting list for that is

I feel your pain about the pet allergy. I ‘forgot’ to tell the consultant about my horses as I couldn’t bear to be without them 😛. I find the usual fexofenodine, beconase & Benadryl helps but I’m guessing you’ve tried those? Your allergies are almost identical to mine, in fact you could be my sibling 👍.

I’m not using any antihistamines currently as I haven’t been getting any allergy symptoms. When I’m around an allergen I get itchy eyes, sneeze and wheeze. But thinking to try additional in the meantime while i wait to speak to the next specialist. I don’t want to wait for that appointment for them to suggest I try antihistamines

I put a request in to my dr for antihistamines and they have said speak to the respiratory clinic so no doubt when I ring them tomorrow they will ask me to ask my dr to prescribe antihistamines in the meantime 🙈

I've been able to tolerate family pets since taking Montelukast. It doesn't work for everyone, but worth trying for at least two months to see how you fare. And it doesn't require a consultant prescription.

I got it last year. I’ve had two brilliant summers for hayfever. Cleaning is better on it. As dust would make me sneeze lots. Now I need to stand where there’s lots of trees rather than just in the house.

At one point I was taking four antihistamines and a nasal spray. Now only occasional antihistamines
