Fostair 200 inhaler

My Fostair inhalers seem to stop working at between 30-50 puffs left. This is at least the third time it’s happened so a bit worrying.

Mine is the same but I can usually nurse it along a bit further if I clean the nozzle with a damp cotton bud.

I read somewhere that failing to give MDIs a really good shake before use can mean the propellant is unable to do its job as it's not mixed sufficiently well with the medication. I'm assuming that the two sit separately in the canister, like oil and water, and if the propellant isn't at the valve end then the valve won't fire. But that's just a guess on my part.

Someone did write on a similar post that they thought the plastic case was faulty and when they transferred the canister to a different case (from a Ventolin inhaler) it started to work again. Just throwing possible solutions out there. Otherwise get your pharmacist to report it on the yellow card scheme and return the inhaler as faulty.

That might have been me! I transferred my Fostair to an older plastic cover and it worked fine. Problem is of course that you lose the counter so need to count the doses as you use them. A bit of a pain. I do always thoroughly shake before use then madly shake when they don't perform 🙄 I was told at Pulmonary Rehabilitation to always wait 30 seconds between puffs to 'allow the medication to drop down through the propellant' & those who don't inhale propellant only. I will try the damp cotton bud trick.

Thanks… I always give the inhaler a good shake. My pharmacist said if this one I’ve got now is faulty, she’ll do a yellow card. Thanks again for your reply👍
